Hello!! I am starting my 2nd semester in nursing school and I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions on a good drug guide I could use. I have Prentice Hall drug guide and it is not as good as I was hoping.

Can some one please help.

thanks,

SN

I really like Davis, but then again it is the only one I've used...

We have to get the Davis drug guide for school.

Specializes in Rural Health.

I have Davis but then I also found this really cute book called Pharm Made Insanely Easy. It is NOT a drug guide, but it helps me retain the information about certain classes of drugs. It uses pictures and cute little sayings.......I still look up my drugs in the Davis guide, then I read this book and learn and retain the drugs.....

Another Davis fan here....used it all the way through school. Have also used several others, but they aren't as comprehensive as the Davis Guide is.

Specializes in Urgent Care.

I use Springhouse. I bought that one because it is what the clinic uses where I work, and I like it :)

I like Mosbys drug guide and drug cards.

My school want us to get Saunders Drug guide, but i already bought Davis drug guide for my PDA. I love the Davis for my PDA and personally i think it is a he*l of alot easier then flipping through pages in a book. I guess if i have to e the Saunders book i will, are these drug guides really that much different anyway?

Specializes in ER.

I have Davis on my Palm but I also have Epocrates. I usually look up in Davis first. However, when looking for drug-drug interactions I prefer Epocrates.

i like mosby's nursing drug reference for the very simple reason that the drugs are all listed alphabetically by their generic names. there is an index in the back where you can search for drugs by their brand names if you don't know their generic name. because i am a working nursing i get an updated copy of this book every year.

in a pinch, when you have online access, i like these websites.

http://www.drugs.com/ - you can find some pdr drug monographs here. scroll down the main page to find the pdr listings by alphabet.

http://www.globalrph.com/druglist.htm - you can pull up lists of drugs arranged by category. this is the only website i have found where you can do this. there is also much, much more at this site.

Specializes in orthopaedics.

the two i have been using so far are davis's drug guide for nurses, which was a required purchase when we entered the program. what is nice about it is has a program for my pda and you get updates on meds or new meds that aren't in the book added to the pda version everys so often.

i also have and love mosby's nursing drug cards. lots of handy info comes with a protective sleeve to keep cards clean.

I use Springhouse and absolutely love it..in fact a lot of my classmates ask to use mine instead of Davis or Mosby's because it has more info...

I also use Gahart's intravenous medications book as well...I would recommend Gahart to everyone..really helps out with compatibility issues!!
