The lovely college I attend doesn't give out final grades for the semester until the first week in January. The final exam was yesterday. Completely stinks!

My school got grades out as soon as they possibly could. Made for some tense moments at the end of semester parties with us hovering over our phones.
Pretty sure that was not sarcasm. I've been getting grades by email since sixth grade, fifteen years ago almost. It is strange to have to wait so long to get them. If you are in college, you have computer access. If you are an American, you have access, part of the taxes we pay find the PUBLIC library.
No need for nastiness.
To OP: it's weird. It saves time, money, and trees to send them electronically.
At my school, we got our final grade the same day we took our final. Our director don't play when it comes to getting our grades in. We always have our grades by the evening on the same day we took our test. I was grateful. I get tuition reimbursement from my job and they want to see your final grade. It seems like it takes human resources a month to process that paperwork. The sooner you can get it in, the better. I have to put that towards next semester's tuition.

It's hard for someone who grew up in the electronic age and has always had easy access to computers, cellphones, tablets, etc. to comprehend that there are many people today for whom in home internet service or even owning a cellphone is a financial impossibility. Public libraries and college libraries aren't open 24 hours day nor are computer centers.
Food and childcare expenses must come first. Hence grades are sent both ways.
