Have you tried looking on Amazon for the books you need. I have bought several dirt cheap, sometimes I will choose an earlier addition of a book just as the price is right.

Go to half.com or abe books and get them used. http://product.half.ebay.com/Step-By-Step-Medical-Coding-2007_W0QQprZ57003819QQtgZinfo

This may be a dumb question, but lpnflorida suggested perhaps getting an earlier addition, and I've been wondering this anyway: I have books from when I was in nursing school in 2004... do you think those are still current enough to read through to refresh myself before going back to work? (Sorry to highjack the thread, just wanted to ask while I'm thinking about it lol)

Great place to start!
You're already familiar with those sources, and you'll be surprised how much of it will come back to you naturally.
Good luck!

Check the career section at your public library. There are often useful books there.
If this is a textbook for an actual class; try the school library.
