So I sat down this morning and looked at ADN and BSN programs in my area that I can transfer to. I found one BSN and one ADN program that I can apply to. At the other schools I looked at it would take a year of science classes in addition to the two years of nursing classes. Or programs give first priority to people who live in that county /or have completed courses at their particular schools. Or I cant apply because this is my third attempt at A&P II (I have two withdrawals). So Im worried that I wont be able to get into a nursing school. I dont really have a back up either. If I started on something else it would take me 3+ years to finish. Im 25 and I need to hurry up and get a degree.
Yeah I have two backup plans actually. I graduate in May with my BA and I am applying to ABSN programs and maybe one generic program. If I do not get into any program then I will be going to grad school for my MPH or MSW. But I will be getting into a program......there is no doubt of that. The generic program admission is based completely on GPA and my GPA is way above the required entry.
I was denied twice by two different nursing schools while I was an undergrad. Once I received by Bachelor's, I was accepted by every place I applied. So I would suggest that you work towards a Bachelor's (as a backup plan) even if it turns out not to be in nursing.
Yes, 2nd degree programs are VERY competitive. I just had to throw that in there. Apply everywhere!
I'm about to be 25 as well and I too would loooove to hurry up. That being said i'm a strong believer in the turtle vs hare method. A strong steady pace is what it will take. I have a back up, but not for if i don't get into NS but if I need to wait... If I don't get in round one I'll take an EMT class and do tech work (well I might do this During my pre reqs) if that's done, then LVN program (at an ROP not trade school) this way i'm not wasting my time waiting but I will stop at nothing to get in. I'm not going to say " Ah crud, i'm 25 no nursing degree, guess i'll be a teacher instead..." Just stay focused my dear, worry about getting what you need to get done, done to get what you WANT. Trust me 3 years will fly by. If you want to be a nurse... like really bad, then go for it and live for the day if it's just an option and all you want is a degree then find that one major that will rock your socks and turn them pink. GREAT LUCK!!!

Lol thanks! I really hope that I do too, because I really don't want to change my major but I have two very little ones and my husband supports us so of course I want to make them proud :)
