Does anyone have a backup in case they doing get into NS?

Published

So I sat down this morning and looked at ADN and BSN programs in my area that I can transfer to. I found one BSN and one ADN program that I can apply to. At the other schools I looked at it would take a year of science classes in addition to the two years of nursing classes. Or programs give first priority to people who live in that county /or have completed courses at their particular schools. Or I cant apply because this is my third attempt at A&P II (I have two withdrawals). So Im worried that I wont be able to get into a nursing school. I dont really have a back up either. If I started on something else it would take me 3+ years to finish. Im 25 and I need to hurry up and get a degree.

Lol thanks! I really hope that I do too, because I really don't want to change my major but I have two very little ones and my husband supports us so of course I want to make them proud :)

No, I dont have a backup plan, that really is worst case scenario for me. I am 39 years old and in serious financial shape since the recession hit. If I dont get in than I really need to reevaluate my life.

we are in the same boat

If I didn't get into NS at any of the schools I was looking at, I probably would have considered OT. But I did so thankfully I don't have to worry

my plan c is to graduate from with a degree in health science nex yr and the apply to an occupational therapist program, or if I decide I want to do nursing, I will do an accelerated rn/bsn at a private university

Yeah I have two backup plans actually. I graduate in May with my BA and I am applying to ABSN programs and maybe one generic program. If I do not get into any program then I will be going to grad school for my MPH or MSW. But I will be getting into a program......there is no doubt of that. The generic program admission is based completely on GPA and my GPA is way above the required entry.

I was denied twice by two different nursing schools while I was an undergrad. Once I received by Bachelor's, I was accepted by every place I applied. So I would suggest that you work towards a Bachelor's (as a backup plan) even if it turns out not to be in nursing.

Yes, 2nd degree programs are VERY competitive. I just had to throw that in there. Apply everywhere!

I'm about to be 25 as well and I too would loooove to hurry up. That being said i'm a strong believer in the turtle vs hare method. A strong steady pace is what it will take. I have a back up, but not for if i don't get into NS but if I need to wait... If I don't get in round one I'll take an EMT class and do tech work (well I might do this During my pre reqs) if that's done, then LVN program (at an ROP not trade school) this way i'm not wasting my time waiting but I will stop at nothing to get in. I'm not going to say " Ah crud, i'm 25 no nursing degree, guess i'll be a teacher instead..." Just stay focused my dear, worry about getting what you need to get done, done to get what you WANT. Trust me 3 years will fly by. If you want to be a nurse... like really bad, then go for it and live for the day if it's just an option and all you want is a degree then find that one major that will rock your socks and turn them pink. GREAT LUCK!!!

My plan has always been to go to nursing school, then pharmacy school. If i dont get into nursing school, i will continue taking the pre-reqs for pharmacy, i already am taking some of them. I do hope i get in though...Don't want to spoil the plan
