I had a pt brought by EMS for altered mental status. ER doc is talking to the pt asking her what meds she takes. What do you want? She's crazy , their all crazy!!!!

I work in an outpatient substance abuse clinic. Our addiction specialist MD once charted (after reviewing a tox) "patient appears wasted and looks like a druggy wearing a hoodie. Urine tox is lite up like the forth of July."

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

I was working my last shift before taking leave for an elective GYN surgery. Our brand-new surgeon asked me to remind him of something the following day- to which I responded I would not be there because of the surgery. He responded "Oh, you're finally getting those breast implants you've always wanted!"

(I'm a solid 44DD to begin with)

This was 20+ years ago, and when I needed my gall bladder out recently, he was STILL apologizing for it.

Nurse manager walks into a room during aCODE WHITE. Dr says. " So,,, who was that Barbie ??? " made us all laugh during a very tense time.

I was rounding with a cardiologist when the patient tells the Dr he's been having a ton of gas lately, without missing a beat the Dr replied, "uh that's not my end buddy you'll need another Dr", it was all I could do to keep a straight face. As we turned to leave the Dr laughed and said "not my end, I'm gonna have to remember that!"

The patient is not on Coumadin, she's on Warfarin....seriously?!

Female patient in ED and doctor comes in to examine her. She is well endowed. Doctor listening to her lungs says "big breasts" instead of big breaths. :roflmao:

We used to have a wound surgeon that would draw a picture under the orders of a person sitting with a circle around it and a line thru it (like you would see on no smoking signs), instead of just writing out the restrictions!

Idk if it was the same dr or not but we had one that would write very large on an order sheet "need more order sheets on chart!" Even though there was some on the desk in their dictation room that they could just grab and put on chart themselves!!!!

boththings drove me nuts! Lol

Working with newer pulmonoligist who had ordered both a ventilator and an apnea monitor for a home patient. Trying to explain that ventilator patients don't need both and reasoning that the ventilator breathd for the patient and alarms if there is an issue.

I was a young nurse working for the government. I had never done sutures before. The PA said oh you can do it. I said I would rather practice on a pig first. The PA replied in front of the patient oh he is a pig he is security forces.

Overheard senior resident to a med student: be nice to the nurse. They can save your tail or if they like you or make life miserable if they don't.

One of the nicest things that I have ever heard a doctor say was by Dr. R. Provenzano. He commented to a group of nurses, "Remember his; patients are in the hospital because they need one thing-nursing care. Everything else can be done outpatient. Nursing care is why they are here and why you, the nurse is here". He was such a great advocate for us! Katy
