I know this topic has been discussed before on this site..but, I was curious for an updated response. How many of you would be willing to pay more taxes for universal healthcare? I find it egregious that the US has put a cost on maintaining/saving ones life! I traveled to Europe and the thought of them having to bring their checkbook to the hospital aroused literal laughs. It's the same notion that we'd have to whip out our debit card to firefighters before they turned the hoses on our burning homes. It's sad. I think the overall costs of UH would be beneficial...in fact, the raised taxes would still probably be lower than our rising premiums every 2 weeks! Thoughts?
Dude,
The whole story is how they can't work and can't afford groceries. Look at these two women and tell me where they are suffering from lack of nutrition? Maybe they are struggling because they are obese and refusing to do any work.
Please don't tell me you are denying their 'struggle' because they are obese.**ROLL EYES WITH DISGUST**
Just when I think maybe I came on too hard you go ahead a confirm my original thoughts...

Maybe they are obese because the food you can afford on a small budget is NOT the healthy food. The link between poverty and unhealthy food is well established.
Maybe they can't get a job.
I took my brother job hunting over and over. Never could get him a job. He is in Job Corps now hoping it leads to something. Me, I get a job immediately. Maybe there is more to the story than they are fat... The story talks about their troubles. No where does it say they refuse to work. Also, without certain skills there is no point to working. If you have ever worked at minimum wage you would realize the pointlessness of working your tail of to have... Nothing. They have no skills. Instead of berating them and pointing out what fat losers they are maybe you should try instituting a job skill or training institute.
Jeez, ok I can understand frustration with a broken system but your lack of compassion for people is offensive... It must be nice to be able to write off people and let them disappear as if they didn't matter...
I have compassion for those that deserve compassion. I have disdain and little compassion for those that provide their own shackles in life and expect everyone else to come to their rescue. So they cannot afford some lettuce and make a salad? They cannot afford some veggies or fruit? I bet they can afford some Doritos and Ho Hos. Thsi is what liberalism creates dependence and a total lack of motivation. I bet you cut off their subsidies and other freebies and they will find a job real quick. McDonalds and Wal-Mart are always hiring and they pay more than minimum wage.

I don't know where they shop but for 102 bucks a month I can buy fresh fruit and veggies and not processed foods or starches.
Not for a whole month and not enough to feed even one person... Please around here a weeks worth of fruit and veggies that are edible are expensive as all get out.
Who can honestly say 100 dollars a month is enough food for one person and they are getting enough food and they aren't on the college ramen soup diet. LOL

ME. I'm single. I only feed me. 100 bucks is more than enough. I go to the farmer's market which is supposedly rumored to be expensive. Some of the harder to find products to find are expensive but the fruits and veggies are cheap and they last longer than the fruit and veggies that I could buy at Kroger or Meijer.
Nope that is an attack on these people they cannot help themselves it's Bush's fault or a Karl Rove trick. Why it's homophobia, bigoted, sexist, racist comments from conservatives that cause problems like this in America. These two ladies were of normal size and had great jobs under the Clinton Administrationa and God willing they will again when Barack gets into office and gives them change they can believe in.

Wow, where do you live??? Last time I got tomatos at the farmers market near me cost 5 dollars for 3...
Of course you have to factor in someone not knowing where to get healthier food, not knowing what to eat and not knowing how to cook it. Kinda like the ghettos with no grocery stores... It took me years before I became a full vegetarian without relying on the nasty fake stuff.
