what should i do-take microbiol & A&P2 together or seperate?

Published

hey, what is there to know about microbiology? what is the class like, how different or similar is it to A&P 1 or 2. what do you think, should i even consider taking microbiol and A&P 2 classes together or just a really bad idea? one of my friends is doing that and i'm really considering doing that as well with her.

I personally liked micro better than A&P. They are not similar at all . It was just more interesting, something I have never seen before. It has changed the way I think about wiping my counters with a sponge or swimming in the lake.:imbar I am more aware of the things I can not see with my eyes and I drive everybody crazy with it. :p I would not recommend taking those classes together because they do require a lot of your time. I don't know are you taking any other classes or only your sciences?

I would strongly advise you to take them seperate. The reason why is that A&p is the basis of everything in the nursing program. If you have the time I would take it by itself so you can focus on that. Micro is a waste of time, you will never use it again probably (at least the micro at my school), but it is time consuming so I would take tnem seperate to save your GPA and to be able to focus on the oh so important A&p.

i think it really depends on how much time you are going to have. i am in micro and a&p 1 right now and i kind of like having them together b/c they help reinforce some of the finer details of certain things. i will admit it gets a little hectic when i have a test in both the same week, but beyond that i think you will be fine. once again though i will say that if you are going to be pressed for study time i would not recommend b/c you definitely do not want to get behind in either class. good luck!

I agree it all depends on how much time you have and the kind of student you are. 3 of my friends attempted both at the same time this semester and of them 1 dropped Micro and the other 2 are struggling...BUT that does not mean it cannot be done..it just will take a lot of time and determination! I know of one person in my class who is just a classmate who is in both and has A's in both....she's a very serious student.. It can be done...if you have the time and determination!

I'm doing it and I'm 8 months pregnant with two small kids and I'm taking an English class. It's LOTS of work, but its totally doable. I think its even easier than when I took A&P 1 together with cultural anthropology this summer. I am blessed with two fab teachers though. That makes all the difference in the world.

I suggest taking them separately. When i went to school my counselor advised me to take them both together. It was very challenging and I had two small children at the time. The very next year the school advisors started telling pre-nursing students to take your sciences separately so you can focus on each one individually. My daughter is now a pre-nursing student and I told her the same. She is currently taking her A&P and has a 96 average in her class

I'm taking them together this semester. Like most others have said, it really depends on how much study time you have available. They are two pretty intense classes that require a lot of study time (and class time for that matter). At my school, the lab and the lecture are tested separately for each class so in one week, I could potentially have 4 tests!

If you decide to take them together, it will require a lot of dedication to the material. I find that I can't fall behind - once I do, it's really hard to catch up. But, it can be done.

If you decide to take them togeher, just know what you're in store for. Preparation is key! I started looking through review books before the semester started - it was pretty helpful. Good luck!

ps...I work full-time but don't have any kids.

I am taking them together next spring. I'm a little nervous since I work 40 hours a week but it's the only option that I have other than taking micro over the summer (which is even more intense and not doable with a 40 hour workload). Though, kgrands comments make me feel better (same situation).

I spoke with my advisor at nursing school and she even agreed that it will be a challenging semester. But, she did say if I made it through those classes and maintained my grades, then nursing school would probably seem easier. :chuckle

Not sure if I should view that as a positive or not, but that's how I'm trying to frame it. I've already warned friends and family that I will be even more scarce than I am now and I'm also relying on the large bank of PTO that I've accrued at work for those rough weeks where I will potentially have 2 lab practicals and 2 lecture tests.

Goodluck!

hey well all depends how u take it...

my advisor asked me to take it separately n now i do understand y he said so.

A&P and micro both hav equal weightage , so u just can't ignore any.

better giv equal importance n u will definately fly with coloured wings.

I vote for you to take them separate too.

well thanks for all those opinions. i think i'm going to take them seperately b/c i'm also going to take at least 2 other classes. so it'll most likely be A&P 2 and 2 or 3 other classes and not microbiol. i'll probably save it for next fall. but again it's not final until the fat lady sings.
