Do you have to take ATI exams?

Published

OUr first ATI test is comming up next month. We have them through out the program. Even if you pass the class, but can not pass an ATI exam you are out of the program. Does any one else have to take these? If so how hard are they? Study tips? Anything??

Thanks

We have to take the ATI also (proctored in class, and we have required attendance), but it's just for the experience. We started taking it the first month of nursing school. I'd say about 75% of the material we had not covered yet! Our teachers told us that it was for the experience, and I totally agree.

As for all of the people who are saying it's hard or easy, it depends on how much of the material has been covered. If you haven't covered most of it, it's going to be hard. If you take it at the end of a semester and have covered most of the material, it should be easy; every thing will be fresh in your mind.

Oh my goodness,

What a difference using the ATI books and DVDs and CDs make!

It should not have been hard but, if you do not, (as I didn't) use the ATI as a review for their exam then you are making it more difficult on yourself.

My situation turns out totally OKAY. It is the fear of being so close and not making it that made my case feel worse than it was. It is fine.

It is one part of our grade and not *the* deciding factore.

Re-takes are allowed. So I figured I'd better really study the ATI provided materials.

Just in one four hour session of watching the DVD and it covered EVERYTHING that was in the book.

It was my error in failing to review it ahead of the exam.

Duoh on me :trout:

It really should have been simple.

Now, I plan to reviw ALL the ATI cds and dvds before our comprehensive one next quarter.

Good luck!

(Hey HeartsOpenWide, I don't know if you already took your test or not, but Fundamentals is one of the easy ones. Some of the questions are ridiculous, but overall it's common sense.)

Thanks, I hope you are right. I am taking mine today at 3:30. Wish me tons of luck, I am nervous as hell!:uhoh21:

I attend a university in Chicago and we take the ATI also. Focus on normal changes that occur with aging, most common side effects of the meds. Do you have an ATI study book? If so read from front to back : literally. Know your lab values; especially those dealing with acid/base and electrolytes.

Just thought I would update you....I got in the 95th percentile. WHOO!!

We take them at my school too.

Please keep in mind that they are designed so NO ONE gets 100! They expect someone with a 75% to be passing. I took a comprehensive ATI last week and our scores were posted then we could compare our school with the chance we had of passing the NCLEX. And a 76% had 100% chance of passing the nclex. Just remember that when you take them!

We had to take them and pass with at least the program score. the best I did was 88% on the OB one. Passed them all but no other as well as that. Good luck.

CONGRATS!:balloons:

I take my Peds ATI tomorrow...Im sweatin this one. So many ranges for vitals and I only got a 74 on the practice. Im going to reread the important chapters in the ATI book today and take the 2nd practice test tonight.

Cross your fingers:)

Interesting how the programs use them so differently.

In my program, we simply have to take them until we pass with a 90% or higher. We can take them 100 times as long as our final score is 90% or more.

I like them; I think they are helpful in getting into the test-taking groove; they also sometimes cover material that our instructors didn't get to, so I feel it makes my education a little more comprehensive.

We only took a couple this semester, it looks like more next semester (our LPN to RN program is a 2 semester program).

Good luck!

We take the ATI and must earn in the 60th percentile or we must re-take it. I took the Fundamentals this week and did not pass, so I am re-taking it on Monday and then have the Psych ATI Tuesday. Overall, we have 5 ATI's during the program and of the 5, we can only re-take 2 of them. Since I've already used one re-take, I'm a little nervous. After taking the first one, I now know that as long as you read the ATI books for the exams, you should pass no problem. Unfortunately, there are things on there not covered in class, but after looking over the questions I missed, I know everything on the exam is in the ATI book, so that is what you need to be studying. There are practice tests, which is what I spent my time in (since that's what our instructors told us to do), but that was a waste of my time. Our program gives us the ATI books and they are included in tuition, but if your school doesn't give them to you, you can get them from ATI's website. We must pass ATI as well as our class, if you pass one and not the other, then you do not pass the semester.

hello, we have ati throught our program too. they give us books on every topic we are on(i'm currently in peds)to practice and read, then we get tested. if we do not get a certain percent we have to remediate...and we cannot advance to the next semester if we do not pass!
