Yes. Some schools will allow students to test out of certain courses with prior education and experience but you can't test out of everything. An RN with 10 years experience will be in the same clinical rotation as a student who has absolutely no health care experience prior to entering the BSN program. You get both extremes and all in beween when it comes to experience and qualification of BSN students.
I had assignments that were more so on a public health type spectrum. Because of my work schedule at the time i had to take the assessment class with the non-rn transfer students which was like working at a snail's pace - but i got through it and it was interesting to see all the nursing students going through what i just finished.
I had to do about 80 hours of nursing management. I wore a suit and tie and followed the nursing cheif of surgery. It was a good experience. I tested out of having to do any community health clinical time, based on my experiences as a RN.
It is a RN to BSN program for a reason, you dont have to go through what I considered some of the silly classes nursing students have to take. It took me 4 semesters to get my BSN. I went to a traditional classroom.
We RN to BSN students had a few classes mixed with the traditional BSN students. Most of those people were nice and friendly, only a handfull thought they already knew everything.
so your an RN now ?
is that correct ?
The thought of having to do clinicals in management scares me off RN to BSN programs. I have absolutely no interest in management, ever. I know it would be good to learn but I find all that stuff boring...bedside care is what I love and I wouldn't be a nurse if I couldn't work on the floor doing bedside care.
I suppose all programs are different and I could check more than one to see what is required.
