Certified Nurses Day™ is a special day of recognition to celebrate the contribution of board certified nurses to the advancement of nursing professionalism and to higher standards and better outcomes in patient health.

Placing this "recognition day" outside of nurse week only serves to dilute hard work to gain recognizion for our acomplishments---further erods nurse week into "patient care/hospital week.... so other members of healthcare team not offended"........grrrrrr . They are in your facility 24/7 or home care agency (esp recerted patients) for the NURSING CARE......

Meh, it seems every other type of nursing has a special day or week if they are especially special.

The reason our little hospital went to "Hospital Week" is that you could never please each group - they were like kids. "Johnnie got a bigger piece of cake than me!!".
Seriously.

Not even sure what that means...never heard of it......Seeing as nurses are LICENSED not certified......do they mean RNs and LPNs????????? The two words are really not interchangable.
If you go to the website linked above (which I had to do too) is tells you what certification is . . .
. . "defines certification as, "the formal recognition of the specialized knowledge, skills, and experience demonstrated by the achievement of standards identified by a nursing specialty to promote optimal health outcomes."1 After meeting defined eligibility criteria, a certification candidate achieves a nationally recognized credential through successful completion of a rigorous examination.. . ."

As an RN certified in my specialty, I'm satisfied with my certification differential. I don't need a day to celebrate. Although it was a stinkin' hard exam to pass.
:yeah:Good job!
Nursing is so diverse we could end up with a different nurse appreciation day almost every day.

I think the hospital has a hard enough time doing anything for it's staff nurses, that they can attend, beyond all of the nursing managers. We are lucky if can even get to celebration activities as staff, BUT, the managers always seem to go, so, unless it is something truly that the hospital is committed in the proper way to doing it is not worth the effort

What's the problem with it? Normally people are complaining about no recognition. They get some, and still complain? I don't get it.

May I then propose June 1 for non-certified, middle-aged maternal-child RNs currently unemployed but volunteering in the school and parish settings?
I would suggest chocolate as an appropriate celebratory measure.
You're right. This is ridiculous.
