Ok. Now I'm really frustrated. I was sitting in that room for over 3 hours and watching the questions count all the way to 265. I was the last person to leave. I'm not feeling very confident. I know most of you said that it shut off after 75 questions or so, and you passed. I have only heard of a few people passing with 265 questions...anyone out there?
I studied and did lots of practice questions. The truth is, I don't test well - I usually "barely" pass everything related to these types of exams.
It will be a long weekend while awaiting the results. I already have a job lined up so I think I will be rather embarrassed if I have to tell them that I failed. Not only that, but I'm still burnt out with all of this studying stuff! Advice?

This is an interesting way of looking at it and clearly a philosophy from a test prep company.
You know this is the case for ANY computer adaptive test - the idea isn't your raw score but the difficulty level you achieved (or degressed to. ). The "computer" will always look at the last 75 questions you answered in order to pass or fail - that is the sequence of termination for the exam.
No need to fret - just do your best. That's how the exam is designed and why it's better than a standardized format.
I heard that if you are going all the way (taking all 265 questions) and the computer still hasn't decided if you meet the requirements or not, that at the end of the 265 questions, all the computer looks at are the last 75 questions you answered to make it's final decision. So it seems to be really important that especially for the last seventy five questions, if it looks as though youa re in it for the long haul, you might want to pay special attention. Can anyone second this? i heard this from a Kaplan rep.
I take it in september. I'm CHICKEN!
Congrats to all those that took 265 questions! We should all get award for not having a complete mental breakdown in that testing room!
I took all 265 questions..almost 6 hours..cried for 2 days..believed completely that I didn't pass..i did try the pearsonvue trick and it worked..found out this morning I passed! Good luck to you all! =) You can pass with 265!!!
Hi!
Yes, it's very possible to get all the 265 questions and pass!!!
I took my NCLEX on the 16th of June. I got all the 265 questions and it took me 4 hours. I was sure I failed because I had many pharm questions and lots of questions on priority and "select all that apply". On Tuesday my husband wakes me up at 8:30 am and says "hey, guess what? you passed the exam" and I thought he was joking. But he wasn't! I looked on the computer and he had the bsn.ca website on and it said my name on it! RN!!! WOW!!! It's the 30th already and I received my license a few days ago and I still can't believe that I passed!!! Praise God because I couldn't have done it without His help!
PS-I had to retake a few of my ATI's because I didn't get the passing score in nursing school... and I graduated a year ago!

Thanks for the encouragement i have not passed all my ATI's either the first time. That worried me because NCLEX is so important.
Kaplan explains very well how the Nclex works. They say in their books that you start out a fraction below a line. So, imagine you have a line that is labled 0, then you have a dot that is labeled +1 and one below the line that is labled -1. You start out at -1. So when you get a question right that is just basic knowledge, you stay at -1, but if you get an application, or analyse question right you now shifted to 0. So, each question works you either up, keeps you at the same level or lowers you.
Next, if you have 75 questions and passed. This means that you consitently stayed above that line. However, if you had 75 questions and you did not pass, that means that you remained below the line and they say in kaplan that if you fail with 75 questions that does not mean that you "almost passed" it means you really need to hit the books and study, because you never pullled high enough up.
However, they say if you answered 265 questions, this translate that you skimmed around that 0 line and you went up and down. Your bad luck woud be that your very last question was below the line and when that happens they go back a certain amount of questions. and if all those questions were above the line you still pass, however if just one of them went down the line, you will not pass. Oh, but if you answered 265 questions and you very last question was correct, you automatically passed.
Its hard to explain this, but draw a line and label it and you know what I mean.

Thank you so much for keeping me in your thoughts. I learned this morning that even after taking all 265 questions and being in complete denial about even the idea of potentially passing, that I HAVE! I am an "unofficial" RN! I appreciate all of your thoughts of kindness~
