Hello! Just graduated from nursing school and having trouble finding a job!
Does anybody have any leads for new grads in Phoenix area????
Holy cow! This is really scary! I'm an LPN and I've been looking and applying for LPN jobs for over 8 months now, and I've not received one call back. They all want experience. Yesterday, I applied to Gateway for advanced placement to the RN program. So now, I'm reading all of this, and feeling that I've been lied to. :anbd: In the papers, in the news, all saying how there's a shortage of nurses, but they don't say it's only for experienced nurses. Is this just a result of the bad economy right now? Will it blow over? I have 4 friends who were new grads about a year and a half ago, and they all found jobs easily, however the jobs were for hospitals on the outskirts of the valley. I woudn't mind a long drive to work, as long as I can find a job, and pay off the student loans! :stone
Okay, I'm through stressing. Judge Judy is starting.

There is no shortage for experienced nurses either, sorry to tell you. Yes, it most definitely is a result of the bad economy.
It will blow over, but who knows when?
Kicking this thread. I just graduated in December and haven't had a single call back on any of my applications. I was hoping things would have started to turn around by now. I do notice a softening of some of the experience requirements on many jobs, but it seems there is always some caveat that I can't get around.
It's very frustrating to know that all of these hospitals in the Valley were pushing the schools to expand their programs and crank out more nurses. Now, they don't want us. Very disheartening.
How's it going for everybody else out there? Have you found work in the Valley?

A search of UMC's website yeilds only 9 results for Nursing Staff nurse jobs.
Here's what they all say for qualifications:
RN-All Areas
Minimum Qualifications: Must be licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Arizona. One year clinical experience in an acute care hospital is required.
Maybe it will change after the expansion, but right now, UMC is not hiring new grads. (at least, it's not listed on their website.) If they are hiring new grads, I wonder if they are only hiring them from the UofA.
