Do I tell that I failed nursing school in my applications?

Published

I am torn between talking about my failed nursing school experience in my application for new nursing schools. A part of me feels like the experience will help me the second time around, but then I feel like the programs won't want someone who already failed a program once.

Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on this?

Thanks so much.

More than likely you will have to provide your official transcripts, which will show the unsuccessful attempt for previous nursing courses. I am not an instructor but I had many ppl in my classes both LPN and RN that had previously been unsuccessful. Your school probably uses parameters for grades and credit hours to "place" you in their program. Unless your GPA was significantly impacted by your previous unsuccessful attempt(s) I don't think it will be a problem. Good luck to you.

You should mention it and address any relevant information as to why you struggled, what you learned, and why you are prepared to do better this time around. Schools will find out about a nursing school past when they do an academic background search. Better they find out the history from you rather than find it out elsewhere with no context and the impression you had something to hide in omitting it.

Most school applications ask you to submit transcripts from every other school you've attended. If you omit the other school and they find out about that, they are likely to consider that academic dishonesty and drop you from further consideration. You have nothing to gain from withholding information.

Chances are at least 99% that they will find out that you failed out already. Nursing schools are very competitive and are going to admit students who are likely to succeed. Your previous attempt will weigh heavily in that decision. Whatever you do, if they ask, be honest and don't try to make it seem like it never happened

At my school, if you failed more than one nursing class at a previous program, you were ineligible to apply. Make sure you check your school's requirements, but I would say "honesty is always the best policy."
