Do you get discipline for not wearing ID badge?

We don't get disciplined, but they make us wear a piece of tape with our name on it if they see us not wearing a badge. That's typically for day shift, though. Nights tend not to care as much.

Our facility doesn't put last names on badges.

Ours lists our full names, which I don't like, because a few of the residents have creepy sons that would rather hit on me than actually visit their mother.

I have gotten yelled at a few times for not wearing my name tag, but the plastic part always rips and falls off, and I end up finding it on a bathroom floor hours later, covered in god knows what. Or whole thing falls off and I end up stepping on it and crushing the clip. So usually I keep it in my pocket and only wear it if the bigwigs are around. At this point, any of the residents who are alert enough to know me can remember my name. The rest of them barely even know their *own* names and wouldn't be able to read my badge if they cared to.

On our employee's handbooks it said that we are required to wear our ID badge. But what I see is that not everyone at work is wearing their ID, especially the people that work PM only a few of them wearing it and Noc about 1-2 ppl have their ID on so the rest just dont bother to wear it at all. When I was still a new cna I wearing them for a few months and then after that I stop wearing my ID b/c I just don't want everyone to know my last name...but it turn out like the whole facility already know it by now. And also b/c I see many CNAs not wearing them so that's why I stop wearing my ID too.
My question is, do we get in trouble for not wearing our ID while on duty?
And how many of you not wearing your ID and why?

Then your patient has the right to know who is providing their care...first and last name. I do not agree with facilities that do not use last names.

The physicians cannot hide their names, neither should you. That is part of being a professional.

Personally, it is a security issue. As a family member, I would be furious to know that anyone walking around in scrubs, unidentified, could wonder around a a facility.

Personally, it is a security issue. As a family member, I would be furious to know that anyone walking around in scrubs, unidentified, could wonder around a a facility.

There is no way some stranger could "wander in" to my facility wearing scrubs and start wiping butts without everyone questioning it. I think it's MORE of a security issue when last names are used. No one has ever just wandered into my workplace, however it is not unheard of to have "lonely" family members make creepy remarks to staff, follow some of them home, look up their numbers and call them at home, etc.

I see you work in NICU, and yes, of course security is going to be much more of an issue when it comes to babies in a hospital than in a Long Term Care facility. In LTC, you have the same residents every day (for the most part), they are generally much smaller than a hospital, and any strange person wandering around in scrubs is going to be noticed immediately.

We're supposed to wear our nametags. Many don't. I usually do, out of habit (at my last facility, you got sent home if you didn't wear it). Our nametags have our first name and last initial. I would not wear one with my full name showing, to me that is far more of a security risk.

We have swivel ID badges @ my facility, so I do wear my badge, but usually the back is what is visible. I don't really like everyone knowing my last name either!! :uhoh3:

We do get disciplined for not wearing our is badges. The patients, family, physicians, and DONs need to know who u are. And u said u stopped wearing your badge because your coworkers did. If they jumped off the bridge, would you? Let them get in trouble. Save yourself.

We do get disciplined for not wearing our badges.

Our badges have first name, picture, and job title/department on the front.

Full name and the scanny part to clock in and out is on the back.

Name badges should be worn. NO, the last name is not necessary!!! My pt will know my name and tittle. That is what they need to know. If they have a problem with me...my boss knows my last name!!! With my last name, a patient or their family member can go to the board of nursing website, type it in, and right there is listed my home address. NO, I do not think anyone needs to know that for me to take care of them or their family!!!
