Do Excelsior grads have a hard time being hired?

Employers are interested in the fact that you have a clear license and they are interested in your previous nursing work history. The school you obtained your nursing degree from rarely factors into the hiring equation. Nurses in New York have no problem with being graduates of Excelsior College because EC is a New York institution.

Im in NYC and here u won't have a problem getting a job because of EC u might have a problem because you don't have a BSN.

New York accepts Excelsior's nursing degree, but the job market is pretty tight right now. Even nurses with BSNs from "traditional' nursing programs is having a difficult time finding employment. You've probably read recent posts from members stating Excelsior grads will never find jobs, but don't believe everything you read...especially from people who are only giving their opinion, not facts. But some states either don't accept Excelsior's degree or require you to have additional clinical hours with a preceptor. So doing careful research will prevent potential students from wasting their time and money.

In my state, everyone I know(which is several people) that graduated from Excelsior, obtained employment shortly afterwards.

My current employer only cared about whether the school I graduated from was accredited, I had an active license, and my previous work performance. I had excellent letters of recommendations from my manager and coworkers that sealed the deal in getting the position I have now.

So good luck, and don't let the negative feedback from people who never attended or even graduated from Excelsior deter you!

Some are old fashion and don't believe our LPN or Medic experience counts. What I did as an LPN doing the EC ADN program was Per Diem work through registries. I was in every hospital and Nursing home in a 20 mile radius. I established myself in each of the facilities as a Great LPN and when I got my RN had 10 job offers. It will take you more than a year to complete the EC ADN program so take that time and become a Great LPN at any facility then start doing some on the side per-diem work and get into other places so they can see you too. If you establish yourself and they get to know you... you won't have a hard time getting a job as a new RN either.

Hi I wanted to ask any of you, have you of Achieve Test Prep. It prepares to take the classes from excelsior and each completed class is tested @ Pearson cue for credits.

It probably depends on where you live. I do know that the major hospital here in Grand Rapids michigan will not even look at you if they see Excelsior on your resume/application

I am currently a LPN student.
Has anyone had a hard time finding a job after graduating from the LPN to RN Excelsior program? anyone from New York? I am worried that because there is no clinical hours besides the last 2 days that i wont find employment.

My good friend is a RN recruiter for SM in Grand Rapids. She definitely hires Excelsior grads. Two of my other close friends were first LPNs with Spectrum Health, completed ASN degrees through EC, and had no issues transferring to acute care settings.

I think you will meet with more resistance as a new grad than with anything else.

Could someone confirm that EC is still accredited in NJ? Anyone have a list of states or the name of the accrediting agency so I can look up the states myself? I have the 3 LS exams and FCCA and CPNE to go. Long journey.
