Do Excelsior grads have a hard time being hired?
It probably depends on where you live. I do know that the major hospital here in Grand Rapids michigan will not even look at you if they see Excelsior on your resume/application

Isu in Michigan, and straighter line credits.
Has anyone done the Lpn to bsn through ISU in Michigan, and if so did you have problems with finding a place doing your clinicals? Also does anyone know how many credits ISU accepts through straighter line? I know excelsior will only accept 7. I have emailed ISU and I am not getting a straight answer from them. Thanks,Kathy

ISU pre reqs
Hello everyone. I have been going back and forth between excelsior and ISU. Frankly the cpne scares me. I like the idea of ISU and actual clinicals. But I got this info from ISU:Enrollment in Indiana State University is not required for completion of the equivalency examinations in Phase I, however, it is required prior to progressing to Phase II. Students must complete the following ten (10) courses, or their equivalent, with a C or better, prior to enrolling into the College of Nursing, Health, & Human Services and progressing to Phase II:* ENG 101 & 105 or ENG 107 - English Composition (6 credit hours) CHEM 100/100L - Chemistry (4 credit hours) COMM 101 - Intro to Communications (3 credit hours) CS101 - Information Technology (3 credit hours) BIO 231/231L & 241/241L - Anatomy & Physiology *(6 credit hours) BIO 274/274L - Microbiology (3 credit hours) MATH 102 - Quantitative Analysis (3 credit hours) PSY 101 - General or Intro Psychology (3 credit hours) *Other general education and cognate courses required for degree completion are:* ENG 305 - Advanced Expository Writing *(3 credit hours) Non-Native Language (6 credit hours) AHS 340 - Statistics (3 credit hours) BIO 412 - Pathophysiology (3 credit hours) PE 101 - Physical Education (2 credit hours) SOC 101 - Foundations of Sociology (3 credit hours) PSY 266 - Lifespan Developmental Psych (3 credit hours) Historical Studies (3 credit hours) Literary Studies (3 credit hours) Fine and Performing Arts (3 credit hours) Ethics and Social Responsibility (3 credit hours) Global Perspectives and Cultural Diversity (3 credit hours) Upper Division, Integrative Electives (6 credit hours)Now I got my Lpn 13 years ago and don't have any of that!Has anyone else had to do all of those pre reqs? And how long did it take you?And seriously PE? I am to old for PE! LolThanks,Kathy*

Documenting on patient falls or what looks like one in LTC
Hello, What I usually do is start like this "observed resident on the floor on his/her left side......." and describe exactly what I saw when I entered the room.

Incompetent nursing assistants
Just have to add, I am an LPN in LTC and the cena's do the vitals there for us. I put out the list of the vitals that needed to be done at the beginning of the shift. At the end of the shift I looked at the vitals and noticed I had put a patient on the list that wasn't even there (had gone out to hospital day before), and next to his name was a set of vitals! And naturally when I questioned all the cena's all denied doing it. Now I would like to say I have worked with some really great Cena's and some bad ones. Same with nurses, I have worked with some wonderful ones, and not so wonderful. You will find that anywhere you go.

How many hours can a nurse work.
We work 12 hour shifts, and when the next nurse calls off or there was not one scheduled then we have to stay over, this is where some of the nurses and doing 24 hr shifts. All management has to say is "they can do it". I miss the days when we had management that would actually come out on the floor and help in situations like this. I know after 12-16 hr shift I am tired, just seem unsafe to me. And the more I read it just seems the same all over the place. I love being a nurse, does something really bad have to happen for management to wake up?

How many hours can a nurse work.
Hello everyone. Does anyone know how many hours legally a nurse can work in Michigan? Where I work some of the nurses are working 20 to 24 hour shifts. This seems extremely unsafe to me. I have tried to Google it and can't really find anything specific.\ thanks!

the college network
Goodmorning everyone! I have seen a lot of post here regarding the college network. I just wanted to make everyone aware of this before they decide to sign on with them. A friend of mine signed on with them. I tried to explain that they were a publishing co, and what they were. They missrepresented themselves to her, it was hard to get her to understand that. They confused her. They made it sound like she was paying per credit and they were an actual college. She took her first test the other day, she barely past. She said that there was tons of stuff on the test NOTcovered in the college network book. Thanks

I can't believe the hootzpah of some people!
Gummybear, My facility is same as yours! I work in a LTC facility and they are so overly focused on customer service and nothing else. The other day I was told to drop what I was doing (I was working on Doctor orders and in the middle of transcribing orders) and go answer the lights. (there were already cena's on the floor). I tried to explain I was in the middle of something, they didn't care only stated that customer service was important, I asked about med errors!! If I stop in the middle of transcription, when I get back 20 minutes?, 45 minutes? (lights are continuous), My stuff will probably have been moved or I will forget where i left off!!! They didn't care. Just customer service!! I would probably would have been made to hand over the suture remover kit too.

Is leaving the premises and coming back considered job/ patient abandonment?
Hello, I work in a LTC facitlity. If we don't get a chance to take our lunch (which is often) we fill out a time edit slip stating that we didn't and the facility pays us for the half hour. There are actually some staff memebers who didn't get to take the lunch and filled out the slip and the facility still took out the half hour. They called the labor board and the labor board said that what our facility was doing was wrong, and is going to look into it. I would call your labor board and talk to them.
