yes.
all malpractice insurance policies have limits of liability. other defendants employed at your entity may and probably do share your liability limits under the same policy. if you, as well as others, are named in a suit, your legal costs, including any settlement, could exceed your employer's shared liability limits. this would mean out-of-pocket expense(s) for you.
i am a strong advocate for individual liability policies and have used nso my entire career. www.nso.com

Yes!
Just type in Liability Insurance in our search menu bar up top, and you will get tons of threads about this topic.
But I read this one, and purchased the insurance the same day I read it. I feel soooooo much better now that I have it.
hello everyone in the nursing world
my question is can nurses have more than one Liability Insurance?
i am currently w/ nso, but was wondering is it wise to have an additional insurance, to be on the safe side.
how many out there have more than one liability insurance?
iiiseeya!
I have no personal experience, but some thing I have read (I believe on this site) is personal Liability Insurance will/can make you a target for being sued. The money chasing lawyers will see your policy as a cash cow and come after you in cases where they would otherwise leave the poor nurse alone. I know this seems counter intuitive, but it maybe something to at least look into.
Merry Christmas
I have never heard of anybody carrying more than one Liability Insurance but have myself considered an umbrella insurance policy. I was going to carry both. I think this would be a question for your agent. You should also read the fine print in the policies, should you get more than one. I know for my health insurance, I have to sign a statement concerning whether or not I have third party insurance. My primary insurance carrier (I actually only have one policy) only pays for secondary expenses not covered by the other policy. So, that tells me, that you can't get double coverage for the same occurrences. I would imagine the same might be true for malpractice insurance. One company might not pay the full amount, or at all, if you have another policy. Ask your agent, or the reps from the companies that you are considering. They have to give you correct info.
