how many of you use your laptop, in nursing school, like it's goin' out of style ? :monkeydance:

i should start a nursing program in the next 3-6 months, and i'm debating over whether i should use my laptop or not. i will obviously bring a binder and writing utensils..but i'm wondering if i can keep more information in my laptop. i type 65+/wpm, so i'm thinking i may be able to get more information down. plus, it seems very organized.

what do you think? how did you go about taking notes and learning in your classes?

You must be joking, right! So hilarious! Exactly what we want to hear!!! :yeah:

I set near the plug box, so if my battery is LOW, I quickly connect it to electricity.

I see my friends using the laptop in class to chat, check their emails, reading jokes, .......

What should we do if we have long boring class like PHARMACOLOGY, which I will have final term exam in tomorrow

Uhm....sorry to be the old grumpy one, but I'd say if you have a "long boring class like pharmacology," then what you should do is pay extra attention! Pharmacology is important stuff and if you think it's boring, it likely isn't going to come easy to you, since you think it's boring.

I would have to totally agree! Taking notes, alone, will keep you busy enough to even think about getting bored!!! Especially with a smart pen to play with (Kidding)!

Smart one! ;)

For those of you suggesting the livescribe type pens, etc. AWESOME item. I looked it up..and I was impressed. However, I am trying to avoid SOME handwriting because my hand will cramp up with how much I want to get in!

That's the whole reason I was leaning towards typing. I'm one of those people that writes with her hand clamped on the pen/pencil. I have tried soooo many times to write "lighter" ..but to no avail..my hand always cramps. LOL

How about practicing writing light. I'm sure you can think of creative ways you can practice that. For example, timing yourself when outlining a text. Decrease the amount of time you write notes so that you can practice taking notes QUICKLY and write LIGHTLY. Sounds goofy I know but by practicing is a good way to get you where you want to be. I had trouble taking notes & I also read my text books TOO fast. This summer I am working on taking notes from my text (outlining) & reading leisure books w/ a metronome.

See, the good thing about the Pulse pen is that even if you need to give your hand a minute to "relax", the pen is still recording audio, so you can ALWAYS fill in the blanks later (and it will digitally be uploaded... see below for example). So, you have that capability!

I was testing the notebook paper and wanted to see how it worked (I'm one of those analytical types). So, there are the typical first, second, and third page of paper, in order. I scribbled on page one first, then jumped to page three to see if the pen would pick up in which page 'I' wrote or if it kept it in order of the notebook, then I jumped back to page two to see in which order it would pick up. Well, when I uploaded them to my computer, it kept the pages in the original notebook order! So, long story short, I can jump around from page to page and it will always keep them in the original order of the notebook.

I also, once written on the three pages and uploaded them, went back and added more information and audio on those three pages. I uploaded them and SURE ENOUGH, that added information I wrote was also added digitally to the uploaded pages, EXACTLY as I wrote them! This thing is pretty darn cool! It even has a piano you can draw and play around with, calculator, basic transcribing dictionary, little movies, etc, etc, etc. The earplugs that come with it (that plug into the top of the pen) are also dual-dimension microphones, also. I've never came across anything better!

I know this was long, but I think it's worth telling all about this cool gadget! They also have the little flip pads that you can use during clinicals (so you're not lugging around a huge notebook). I'm just so excited about using this thing, I can't wait until July 6, when my first class starts! :yeah:

I got the Livescribe pen for Father's day. It is very cool....looks as if it will work very well. I will try it this week in class.

You'll LOVE it! Did you get the 1 GB or the 2 GB?

I've been meaning to get one of these ever since I first read about them about three or four weeks ago. Sound better every time I read about them. :wink2:
