I'm sure this topic is on a lot of pre-nursing students minds, and I am wondering what some other students are planning on doing if they are denied admission to their nursing schools. Are you planning on reapplying several times? Switching to another health profession? Other options?
Personally, I plan on reapplying to several schools, but have tossed around the idea of respiratory therapy.

Good Question! I actually wondered the same thing! I am not worried about the classes and GPA I am worried about the NET. I have never been good at those type of test. I am concerned I wont get in. I have thought just like you about applying to differerent medical programs. I also thought about becoming an LPN getting my foot in the door. ( if I dont get in first try that is) and then reapplying. But I am hoping for the first try! R.N. is what I want!

If I don't get in the first year then I'll probably go back and do another years worth of more pre-reqs (boo) and try again the following year. If I get denied again the following year then I'm screwed, maybe go into Physical Therapy.

I will get in the program since that is what i want to do!
I want to get My RN degree, there fore i can not consider any other course, if by any chance i do not get accepted, i will just have to upgrade my preparation, and then!!! RN...
It is not that hard to get in, the problem i believe is to stay in!
-we have to take a test wich might be - the net/teas/hesi
-do some pre-reqs (wich we must do well in class, since that is to be the preparation to our major classes, therefore base of the course)
-be well presented at the interview, show that you are a candidate with a par-set capability to be a successful nurse, (wich is easy, since that is what we want !!! you just have to be professional, and be your self... the rest you will do just fine)
-and get in!!!!
scores just depend on us! we have to prepare our selves, we have to ask when we need help (in less then 1/2 hour someone will answer your doubts)
and just go trough!
It is not going to be hard, but it is not easy.
we have to put our selves together and go for it, fast paced, and always trying to perform our best...
i will be a Nurse... it is only a matter of time!!! wich wont take that long at all!
I believe in my self, if i dont nobody will!

I am 50% realist and 50% idealist, but on this topic, the realist rules!! I am currently on my school's list to start Clinicals in the Fall of 2010. If I cannot move up my start date through our Merit List program which allows you to move up based on your GPA, I am going to keep that date, and apply to the Respiratory Therapy program which starts every fall/this fall. As a matter of fact, I have already talked to the head of the program and we are going to set up a meeting to see what I can take this summer that may get me into the program next fall. Honestly, the more I look at the Resp. Therapy program, the more it appeals to me.

I'm hoping that a back up plan won't be necessary, but the thought has crossed my mind quite a few times.
Right now I'm taking pre-reqs for a LPN program, and will hopefully be accepted into the LPN program that starts in August. If all goes well, I would graduate with the LPN the following August, of 2009, and then begin my classes for the RN. My goal is the get licensed as an RN, but the community college offers only an LPN to RN program, so I need to do the LPN first.
I believe that 20 students are accepted into the LPN program. It is based on a point system, where you get points for your GPA, and points for prior experience, and points for other pre-entrance tests. I'm confident that my GPA will be excellent, but I do not have any experience in a healthcare setting. Some of the other students in my class are already CNAs, so even if their GPA is lower than mine, they might get into the program because of their experience.
If I don't get into the program for this August, I will continue taking classes that are required for the RN degree. I'll need to take them sometime, so I might as well get them over with. I would also try to either get a part time job or volunteer several days a week in a healthcare setting to gain some experience. Then I would apply next year for the LPN program.
But none of that will be necessary because I'm going to get in this August!! *wink!*

The community college I'm currently attending has a points based entry system and they're pretty forth-coming about the cut off score for the previous three years. It's a good way of figuring out how competitive your application will be.
That being said:
Plan A: get accepted to a program in the local area.
Plan B: get accepted elsewhere.

for me, if I dont get in the 2009 program, I will continue to "make the donuts" at my BORING-DEAD END 9 to 5 job....
..also keep taking other classes and see what else I can do, right now I'm up against the NET test or the TEAS test, this worries me too, there are so many rules, and percentiles, and the list goes on and on, seems like throught out your pre-nursing,then once your in the program its just stress, stress, stress!!
I'm 35 yrs old, tick tock, tick tock!!!!

*sigh* even the thought of my back-up plan makes my heart just sink. but i know it is necessary to have one or two! the stress from waiting for a letter from the university i have applied to is the MOST i've ever felt before. all i talk and think about these days is my chances of getting in (which seem to just keep feeling like less and less as days go on....) its amazing how much i put myself down! anyways, my back up plan is to work at one of the local hospitals full time this summer, and full time in the fall and re-apply for the spring, and apply at another school that i am interested in (but found out about too late to apply for fall).....nursing is my dream, and i don't care what it takes, i'm gonna be a nurse no matter WHAT. my dad keeps asking me "why would you be a nurse-be a doctor" and i just have to tell him he doesn't understand, and i have a passion to do this! good luck to all of us on here! fill me in on how all of you do!!! in the meantime, let's all keep a positive attitude (or at least try! :) )
