Do you have a back up to Nursing?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am starting in less than a week my prerequisites to enter into an associate's of nursing degree program, and I am just wondering, do any of you have a plan if Nursing doesn't work out? Of course I really want to be a nurse, and I think I can do it. But I keep reading stories on here of people who've spent years in school, tons of money, only to find that when they get to clinicals they aren't necessarily suited to Nursing or just don't have the knack for it. So if something like that happens, do you have a fall back plan? Will the courses we take be accepted for something like physical therapy, radiology, or maybe respiratory therapist? Something else in the medical field? I am hoping and praying that I do as well as I want to, but I'm also aware that sometimes wanting isn't enough. What are your thoughts or plans?

I guess my back up plan is my first degree which is dietetics. I graduated 2 years ago with that degree but I have been realizing since then it's kinda boring. After a lot of thinking and research, I now want to be a nurse practitioner. I'm ready to start the path to become a NP and I applied to ABSN programs for the first time this year. I should find out soon if I got in. I'm super nervous! I want this so bad. It feels great to know what you want to do but it sucks that I could be rejected and wont get a chance to do it.

I have explored lots of other careers and I found I don't want to do anything else. I guess my plan B is to marry rich and continue to volunteer at a hospital for the rest of my life. lol, I'm just kidding! :p

Early childhood or childhood ed...teaching preschool or kindergarten. I wrestled between doing this and nursing when I was searching for and applying to colleges, and I know I would be good at it.

I know this thread is kinda old but since I've just started my pre-req's I have been thinking about a back up plan as well. Plan b is pta, c is lpn or medical assistant. I heard the market here is bad for lpn's though, which kind of sucks because up until recently I was planning on just going for that. Now I've decided to try for the rn program instead. I'm just ready to start a career in the medical field. I'm 20 so hopefully I have some kind of degree by the time I'm 24 o_O I dnt know though, every healthcare degree program at my CC has a waitlist. Pta, ota, +& sonography have longer waitlists than nursing :(

I've decided if I'm not in a nursing program by this time next year I'm going to apply for the Radiology program at my school. They have a wait list. So while I'm trying to get into NS I'm still being moved forward into some kind of future in the medical field. Nursing is of course my #1 and I would rather be a nurse than anything, but sometimes life has other plans. You never know.

I went and shadowed an RN on a telemetry floor before I decided 100% for sure. I fell in love with nursing! There's no way I'd do anything else (even though my grandparents are pushing for- with the promise of paying- for med school. I can't wai without t to get through school. Of course there may be sometimes when I doubt my descision (like when all my friends are transferring to a 4year school and I get to stay at good old home) but overall I know without a doubt that I am supposed to be an RN.

So no, no back up plan. I will just keep trying over and over until j become a nurse.
