Disturbing data on Wisconsin

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Published

:confused:A national study has revealed that clearly one quarter of all drivers on the road at any one time in Wisconsin are intoxicated. Has this impacted your life, your nursing practice?

Do you see this finding as false? If so why? If true, also why?

Thanks for the input.

No way....I don't drink and do think there is a problem but not even close to that #. I wouldn't believe that with a very unbiased scientific study that has been peer reviewed and supported.....

The first link mentioned in this thread was inoperative. The second said that 23.7% of WI drivers were drunk in the last year, not at any given time. Yes, that's still too many too often, but it's not the same as 25% at any given moment.

This number takes into account people who drank too much at a sister's wedding ten months ago as well as those who regularly get schnockered at the tavern and then try to drive home.

No one should drink and then get behind the wheel. Ever. But let's use accurate information in the campaign for sober driving so that it will be taken seriously. The real stats are bad enough.

I do not approve of drinking but I only can see this percentage at a certain time like around 2 am when bars are closing or in the rural areas (from experience of working in a hospital and having 9 out of 10 car crashes alcohol related) or if they are including snowmobiles and boats into this study

If this were true we would all be in trouble!

There are a-lot of bars in Wisconsin! Too many I think. I'm pretty sure that is why there is such a big problem with the drunk drivers here *wine although don't be fooled by that! Overall most people are driving sober.

I live in Green Bay WI and think it's a pretty normal town overall; not any different from any other town. I've lived in a few other states and would agree that there are some funky driving habits here. People not being as courteous as they could be on the road! Not sure where this comes from? I think for the most part the people are pretty down to earth and friendly though.

I'm not sure exactly how this effects the hospitals. Right now I'm a nursing student and will find out in a couple years. As for the particular study saying that 25% of drivers in WI are intoxicated, I wouldn't be surprised. However I'm sure this rate goes up and down depending on the time of day and season etc. I'm sure hoping this percentage is not referring to only the completely wasted! This study could also be including those who may have had barely a beer...not that I agree even with that!

Sorry you felt like you were being attacked. Wisconsinites are also know for being a little on the defensive . Gotta love em!

We are? I've never heard that, and certainly wouldn't think it.

As far as the 25%.......was this during Packer season? Home gameday? THAT I'd believe.... ;)
