  1. I had a similar situation, a women admittted for just setting herself and apartment on fire for smoking while using oxygen. She imediately want to smoke and was on med assistance and stated to me she was paying to be here like we were a hotel service.
  2. When I was younger working at a big box retailer, a manager put me to my limits by coming into the break room and tellling me I accidently did not charge a lady enough for rubbermaid boxes. He then told me after my break I had to put the returns away "to get some exercise". He did things like this to me all the time. After my break I walked out in front of the store and customers and called him a number of bleeping words and walked out. Old ladies were cheering me on it was so great!!! This guy was such a pig calling a lot of girls fat etc.
  3. There also is NWTC and College of Menominee Nation for the PN dipolma which are in Green Bay. I also think Rasmussen has a pn also.
  4. To me that is life working in a hospital or nursing home working every other weekend. I knew that when I started going to school for nursing. as for anxiety what is actually causing your anxiety? Is it the other nurses, low staffing what?? If you can not handle working on weekends have you tried working for a major health insurance company or a clinic?
  5. Be sure you count as soon as possible when you get there. I hate it when I am done and waiting to go home but the nurses coming in for PM shift (or any shift for that matter) take off and I have no idea where they are or they are talking to another unit while I am waiting for them so I can go home and can not until they count the Narcotics with me.
  6. In most customer service jobs you have the right to kick the person out for the kind of behavior they are giving you. In healthcare we do not have that right. We also have bosses who are only thinking of the almighty dollar and do not have the same stigma as say Walmart or Target and it is not publically known as well. By the way I have worked in retail, insurance and healthcare I have seen it from all different perspectives.
  7. Back before I went to school for nursing I worked in the health insurance industry. Those CEO's make way too much money. They want the claims processors to find ways to deny claims if possible. If we could get the same healthcare benefits as them, the senators, and congress we as a nation would be a lot happier. People keep saying we will not get the same benefits blah blah. Well more will get better than what we have and if you have money then you can get better which is going on now anyway. Also if it is nationalized we wont have as many lawsuits etc. if the hospital is not worried about not getting their money from xyz insurance and there is a law enforced on these CEO about how much money they can make and there was a mandatory ratio on patients everything would be better less mistakes less malpractice etc.
  8. You sound like you are having the same problems I had. I graduated, found out I was pregnant, took my NCLEX a couple months before I had my child and still had a hard time finding a job. I took a refresher course 2 years after I graduated. I finally found a PRN job. but only worked 2 days a month if that. A couple of months ago I found another PRN position at a nursing home got a least a day a week at this place and now finally was offered a part time position working overnight. Keep looking I hope you find something.
  9. unfortantly there are other professions that get treated like guys that are perverts and sickos. They are cashiers, waitresses, bartenders, salespeople, realtors and many more.
  10. I wish this country would make it a felony to assault a healthcare worker of any kind. We are one of the most disrespected professions right now politically though. I cant see congress or the senate "wasting their time" They would think it is another thing to healthcare reform.
  11. condom stuck in the uterus??? or falliopian tubes???? I have heard of this happening
  12. while I was at work today I was having technical difficulties with the computer we use to administer the medications treatments etc. Another nurse on another wing had a cna call in sick so it was a tough day. Well this other nurse we work with was purposely trying to write us up for stupid things. She got involved with my medtech when she asked if I was still on lunch. (The med tech could not find something and since she knew my computer was down most of the morning she was questioning what the patient said to her. ) Without even waiting for me to come back up in 5 minutes she started looking through my drawers to look for a med error. (this women just loves to get people in trouble) Once I came back from lunch my med tech and I solved the problem within a minute because of communication!!! The crabby nurse just walked away with her nose up in the air like she was pisted off she could not get one of us in trouble. This nurse is always trying to find something wrong with what or how you do something. Also a couple of weeks ago A patient was supposed to get a medication but we did not have any in stock so I documented in the MAR and this in the chart in three different places. She still had the nerve to call and ask why I did not give it. Thank god when I called back I got another person on the phone who looked at my documentation and saw she was up to her crap again. Could anyone give me sugestions how to deal with this beside ignoring her behavior or is this the only mature way????? thanks
