I'm accepted into a DNP program starting in the fall 2009. I've never done distance learning, only a few telecourses (dating myself!) while getting my BSN. I know some of you are passionate about your support of distance learning...others not so much. Can you give me some tips for success with distance learning? What are the challenges that are exclusive to distance learning? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

make time for when you will get on the computer. i use to slack and be like ohh its on the internet.. no time frame whatever.. but i always caught myself working quickly before something was due. treat it like a class. from this time to this time.. it should help you out.

all of my degrees (3) have been obtained via distance learning...my recommendations to you are get very organized ,check your emails frequently for updates and assignments...also know your way around the blackboard format then let it be known you are new to this ...many people are willing to help as you go...good luck
Do you get to know your "classmates" when you're in distance learning? Having strong relationships with my cohorts has always affected my ability to see things more clearly and from other points of view. Are you able to make collegial friendships when you're doing distance learning?
ill be honest with you i don't want to know my classmates...thats one of the main reasons i do online learning to bypass all the bs...i am not there to establish relationships i am there to learn, succeed and get out...

what about your allnurses classmates! aren't we the exception to the rule.:heartbeat
I'm so sorry you feel that way! I've never had a bad experience with any of my classmates- diploma, RN to BSN, MSN-FNP. My classmates enhanced my learning, especially in the BSN and MSN portions. We all brought different strengths to the table and each shared their knowledge freely.

I've done a BSN, MSN and post-MSN certificate online also and nope, don't know my classmates and felt no loss. I did online so that I could concentrate on the learning aspects of it.

Agree, this is an advantage.
girl please...i love all my all nurses friends but when i'm in class i am all business....you know i love y'all...lol
we know it. every once in awhile, though, it's nice to get affirmations!
i don't want you to think i am a nasty person or unfriendly. i participate in the discussion boards and do my part with group projects.. however, i do not go out of my way or initiate friendships with people in class. i prefer to stay to myself because i don't want to get off track or be effected by others outlook on the class. another reason is because i am very aggressive and tell it like it is ..so i have a history of creating tension just by being myself...the key to my success is to keep to myself and not mingle...but everyone is different
