Disney Culture in Hospitals

Nurses General Nursing

Anyone out there been visited by Disney yet? That's right, Disney. Mickey Mouse was there as well as a couple of other characters. All employees were required to attend the 2 plus hour sessions and the gist is that you are working in a perfect environment and you are to provide perfect care.No patients should ever have a complaint because we are at their (and their family members) beck and call 24/7.

It was like a new horror movie...The Stepford Staff.

There are no words for this.

I could think of a few....but I'd be TOS'd from this website, if I wrote them. :nono:

How many other victims have died, as the result of this type of Corporate mentality?

Just...unbelieveable. :(

Plenty in hospitals all across America!!! That would include the one where I work....

I am a very cheery nurse, but I know when it is too much and I become all sweetness and light to the point of emisis! LOL!

The deal is that a professional relationship between pts and staff must be forged. A disney ideal really doesn't hit a medical profesional aire to me and more of a kiss your rear catering that detours from the professionalism!

People go to the hospital because thier condition is bad enough to be there...making it pleasant as possible is a reasonable goal within reason...but once it becomes more about patient satisfaction and less about actually treating them MEDICALLY...I draw the line!

Now I am not staying be stoic or anything...friendly and nice showing compassion...yet keeping that distance and setting goals for patients is what is needed...and sometimes that isn't easy.

However, if I was putting this into Disney...I think I work and have patients that fit most disney characters big time! Like my last Eore, or my last scrooge Mc Duck and his nephews running amok, one of my Docs that I swear is Malificent (complete with flaring nostrils most days), and me...hmmmmm...I guess I would be more like Baloo!

Just don't make me wear one of those funny hats with the ears on it, even I have my limits...

Butt....

How 'bout "Proctologist of the Caribbean"....

The REALLY creepy thing is she sits there with a clipboard- I probably have a black mark next to my name stating that I am grumpy in the mornings and don't say good morning in reply...Heh, Heh, if my hospital did the Disney thing I could just claim that I was acting like my favorite dwarf!(funny how most administrators take after Dopey!) I will be at Disney in 9 days and don't have anything against them per se, but they don't belong in hospital administration! Actually I'm feeling creative today so I present to you the 7 Dwarves of Hospital Administration :

1. Sneaky

2.Greedy

3. Lazy

4. B$#%y

5. Dopey

6.Two-Faced

7.Clueless

Snow White was let go because, even though she did a fine job for the Dwarves, they had a bottom line to think of..and they heard other princesses would work for less!

I love this! I would love to write that on my next hospital employee survey!

Here is my problem with this thing: My patient is dying. I'm sure as (*)# not walking into his room all chirpy and smiling. Not happening.

When I am sick, the last thing I want is to hear somebody come in my room all sing-song about how nice of a day it is. I don't care how nice the day is, I just puked. Go away.

Acting like you work at Disney is, at best, irritating and unprofessional. I'm a grown woman, I don't work at disney because I am a professional. I am not a child, and I will not treat my patients like one (unless they are, in fact, a child). Do me the same favor.

I heard plans to open a hospital at Disney land...the following attractions are in the works for 2020!

*Mr Toads Wild Enema Ride

*Tarzans ER Treehouse

*Its A Small Ward Afterall

*Pace mountain

*Enchanted Administration Castle

*The Fluid/Electrolye EKG Parade

*Peter Pan Palative Care

*Captain Hook's colonoscopy service

*Thumpers cardiac Unit

See, I believe I said much earlier in this thread that, for us incorrigible types, this concept is simply the wrong tool to use against us. It's pure putty in our hands. Or rather, maybe pixie dust. . .

I will never think about mickey and his darned gloved hand the same again. Gee, thanks.

OMG! I just arrived home from 0630 am and it is now 0845 pm! This thread has me rolling and LOL!!! You are all so funny...

If I was a disney-esk person today I think my patients family would have taken me out back and beat me! I sat in a room in ICU, and I mean SAT IN THE ROOM! With a patient on 9 different drips, ICP, CVP, Baloon pump, etc...can you imagine me exploding into the room and saying "Good mornin'...GOOOOD MOORNIN" they would have shot me and asked questions later. There was no room for chipper and gleeful displays of happiness today. Totally inappropriate.

All they wanted was answers to what was going to happen. I could have been Mother Teresa and no-body would have cared. So, me thinks that acting like Cinderella or Snow White would have been wrong!
