  1. Would you hire a nurse who has sued a facility in the past?

    • Yes.
    • No.
    • Depends on how qualified and desirable the nurse is.

I was discriminated against when I applied for a job. In other words, a job offer at a hospital was rescinded due to their discrimination against me. I sued them and won. Now my name is all over Google if you search it. A few years later, similar thing happened. I got a job at a well known hospital, worked at the place, and the manager discriminated me. Since she couldn't make it obvious that the discrimination as the reason for terminating me, she micromanaged me and came up with a bunch of things that a new orientee might get wrong or make mistakes on to get me fired. Now, my lawyers are about to sue that hospital also.

I have been looking for a new job for the last 6 months since the fancy hospital manager let me go. My question is, is my career doomed because my name is tarnished all over the internet as a "litigious nurse," or does it really matter? Do HR people and nurse managers reconsider offering a job to a good candidate because she once sued another facility? What they did to me was wrong. And I want justice. But do people that sue facilities end up having a hard time getting a job elsewhere because of it? It seems like double punishment to me.

To all the nurse managers here that replied to the OP stating they will not hire her....would you hire me? I am a new graduate, eager to work. I know I have to put in my dues. I am willing to take any shift, work weekends, and because I have no children, I am also willing to work holidays.

To the OP...I am not sure what to say. Part of me respect your religious beliefs, and I can understand your committment. However, most faiths make exceptions in professions such as ours.

When you sue once, one can maybe understand somewhat, but twice? Mmmm....that makes you a persona non-grata in a hospital.

The suggestion that you consider a clinic where you can work M-F, or per Diem is something you may want to consider. It will give you what you want.

Good Luck and God Bless.

I just wish people would stop throwing out the discrimination card. It de-legitimizes those instances when it is truly happening.

"Oh, they didn't give me the job. It must be because I am white/black/hispanic/old/young/fat/thin/Jewish/Christian/gay/straight (You get the point)! It must have NOTHING to do with my competences, qualifications, and ability to get the job done!!"

And as someone else said, this is also a part of our entitlement society. We are being trained to think that everyone has to bend to OUR wills, our beliefs, our culture, etc. But the problem with that is, you can't bend to everyone at once, not in a society as diverse as ours.

Please.

2 lawsuits? Like another PP said, nursing is 24/7, 365 days a year. Hospitals don't close on Easter, Christmas, and etc. You should have chosen a different profession. If you really want to "help" people you should just volunteer at a local hospital. What nurse manager in their right mind would want to hire you? Sorry but good luck and keep us updated.

You wouldn't stand a chance in hell of me hiring you if I knew that. Why would I place my facility in that situation when you have filed not one but TWO law suits?

You should probably take a look at yourself and see how you might have contributed to it more.

Also, if you need to have time off on the weekends maybe you should work in a clinic or ambulatory surgery center, infusion center, etc. Hospitals are a 24/7 operation and you are expected to buck up and deal with it.

Very well stated.

We live in interesting times in this country, where we have rapidly been transitioning from an assimilated society, to a pluralistic one.

The trouble with pure pluralistic societies is that they are unsustainable in the long run. A house divided will not stand...

Sabbath observer. I told them I could work Saturday nights and any time Sundays, but not from Friday sundown to to Saturday sunset. They wanted me to work alternate weekends, which is common, and did not want to make any acommodations. I have worked for a facility that had no problem with me working every Sundays instead of every other Sat, Sun. It's what they call in legal jargon as "reasonable."
ugh i wouldnt hire you either, if your name is easily googled and mentions your cases against former employers. you couldnt work the schedule, i dont see it reasonable to give you alone off every sabbath, in some areas this would be every nurse for one day a week or another. it is a 24/7 job.
All the new grads that can't find a job...40,000 paid to someone who never worked. There's your job. Gone.
That explains a hole never filled! but what do i care, someone whose never worked in health care thinks it doesnt matter. med surg isnt life saving or even icu. only er .

Huh? Please explain that thought, because I just re-read it a few times and still don't get it.

I think (may be wrong) that to the outsider looking in, the only "life saving" nurse would be an ER nurse. Those of us on the floors wouldn't count, so working on the floors during the Sabbath isn't allowed. I could be wrong, but that's what I go from it.

I do respect your religious beliefs, but you may have killed your own career. Finding a career with more flexibility to practice your faith is probably a good idea. Good luck.

i quoted someone who basically said that $40,000 payout is a new grad's salary And a reason a new grad wasnt hired. then i said that that amount/ reasoning is why we have an unfilled position but as the op's rabbi allegedly advised, only er nursing is life saving . so as a med surg nurse it doesnt matter to me. all sarcasm. it has been a long night

How are you such a discrimination magnet ?. Do you carry something on your sleeve ?.

Me thinks that those lawsuits are the total sum payment of your Nursing career investment. Nursing is not a cash cow.

In my humble opinion, you are done, find something else to do.
