anybody get discouraged while waiting?
i'm taking prereqs now, and have applied to schools from whom i have heard NOTHING...
i'm 24, i won't start the program until i'm 26 due to waiting lists and/or prereqs (depending on the programs)...so i'll be graduating when i'm 28. i could have gone to med school, for god's sake!
i'm just getting a little bummed waiting...worrying about grades, finances, moving expenses...it's just getting to be a downer.

You are right; it is scary. I am 37 years old, and I will be 41 when I earn my ADN. We have to take this one step at a time, and we must remind ourselves that it is worth all of our efforts. We could spend the next 3 years in a dead end job, becoming increasingly depressed, or we can invest in our futures and come out 3 years later with a career we love.

I have friends who are physicians today and who just received admittance into med school. They waited 5-10 years before being accepted because they wanted to attend American schools. I do not think our wait is as long. Be patient, your time will come.

I started college when I was 18, and I didn't graduate with my first BS until I was 25 years old due to a host of hold-ups and transferring schools.
I am returning to school at 37 and I'll be 40 when I graduate with my ASN and 41 when I get my BSN. That is ASSUMING I'll get in for Fall of 2007, which may or may not happen.
The question you need to ask: How old will you be if you DON'T go?

Not so much discouraged as IMPATIENT... LOL!
I am so ready to begin nursing school, like YESTERDAY would have been nice! But I knew that this path was going to be long and I am prepared for that, plus I know the time in nursing school will fly by, unlike the time WAITING to get in. I keep my attitude positive and I realize that the next 2 years are going to go by regardless of how I choose to spend my time, and I choose to spend it learning to become a professional nurse!

I don't know where you live but it says "dairyland". I guess that means either Ca or Wi?
There is a shortcut into nursing school (sort of) in Wisconsin that I used. If you can get your LPN you can walk right into the second year of the ADN prorgam at some of Wisconsin's techinical colleges. If I was in a big hurry to become an RN I would get my LPN any way I could weather via an expensive private school, local community college, army reserve ect and then attend Southwest Wisconsin Technical College (http://www.swtc.edu). You could be an RN in two years that way (one year of LPN and one year of RN).
Thats how I did it. I have exactly 20 months of schooling from zero college credit to ADN-RN.

Absolutely! I thought about that when I realized that I would be almost 30 when I finished nursing school. The "when" matters less, as long as you're doing it! You'll get there.

Thank you!! Finally! There are others out there that understand!!
I am 24 with an Interior Design degree and planning to apply to nursing school. I will apply in Sept 07' to begin in June 08'! I will be 25 and then won't even graduate until I am 26 or close to 27!!
I know I am still going to be young, but feel like I will be so old for some reason and just wish I had done this right the first time! (I was a nursing major to begin with in 2000, then changed to Interior Design...why?..I have no idea...) Actually, I DO know why...I had an interest in design and furniture and have a creative background, but LOVe love love medicine and nursing)
I am anxious to just get in there and see what it is all about and learn. I hope I get accepted, because otherwise I am not sure what I will do with my prereq's under my belt. I'm not sure I could wait another 6 months to apply again!! Drives me freakin' nuts!!

It is a difficult process but you'll get through. I wish I was still in my 20's. If I get accepted for next fall I'll graduate when I am 35. Age doesn't really matter as long as you reach your goals. Good luck!!

This makes me chuckle (to myself of course not at you) as I feel the same way but I am oh quite a bit older then you and have said the exact samethings I am 38 I won't finish until roughly 42 if all goes according to my plan (which we know it never does) but I still have some good years left in my old bones LOL I am glad I have decided to do this but wish I could speed the whole process up because I am anxious to get out there and work.

:yeahthat: I am with you Jilaweez!
Life is a journey not a destination! If you live for the next few years you will still be a few years older (nurse or not). On the other hand, maybe if more pre-nursing students are discouraged they will drop out of the process leaving more room for the dedicated? Either way we win if we just hang-in.
