Where do you go to see disciplinary actions and result cases for nurses? I looked on a lot of different state board of nursing sites, but they show the whole court docket. I just want to view the small passages in a small paragraph like our office puts up. It just tells you what the person did, what was done about it, and it had the state they were from and if they were LPN or RN. Can someone help? I can't find these anywhere! They are GREAT examples to show you what not to do. Thanks for your help!

Each state is different. CA posts court documents NJ puts 'yes' to disciplinary action and one line like 'consent decree signed ' with no details posted online. One who needs to know would have to contact the BoN directly.

The 'great' examples are generally covered by: (1) don't lie, (2) don't steal, and (3) don't do drugs.
Thanks guys for the help. I will check it out. My supervisor said she got them off Missouri board of nursing under discipline, but I couldn't find it. Maybe you have to be a member of something to be able to look at certain states or something.

Ours are on the Department of Health website. The list the individual, the action (such as discipline, license revoked or suspended, etc) and you can click on a link to get a PDF of the specific case. I have clicked through a fair number of them, and most of them revolve around stealing, diverting, or being impaired at work.

Ours is on the Board of Nursing website. They list the minutes of past meetings, and part of those minutes include RNs and CNAs that have to appear before the board and explain or defend themselves, and then the decision by the Board towards those RNs and CNAs. Most of them are substance abuse related.

For years, several state BONs mailed out nursing dept news letters to its licensed members. Sometimes, there would be pages & pages of entries re disciplinary actions. Usually had the nurse's name, RN or LPN, the offense, and the action taken. Made for very informative reading. It's all prob on Web now.
Majority of entries were drug abuse or diversion related; did see some for thefts, physical abuse, and that ever ambiguous crime of 'moral turpitude'.

I agree with chinadoll, having information about disciplinary hearings is a great way for nurses to learn what they should not do. In Ontario, disciplinary hearings are public record and are easy to locate on the College of Nurses website. There are many hearings on the website and most are related to professional misconduct, below are some examples of what nurse should not do based on three different Ontario nursing disciplinary hearings:
Should not not leave the unit during their shift to sit in the social workers office and watch Media on the SW's computer
Should not work at one hospital while collecting sick leave pay from another hospital
Should not ask their assigned patients to hug them every shift

Be careful not to judge. Mine is considered disciplinary action...it was for mental health diagnosis.
It's just been kind of hard to find the small passages instead of the large docket ones with all the court proceeds on it. I just want to see and show the small passages like anon456 was talking about. Like where are those?
I would never judge. It's not my place. We have all falling short, but it's a good learning experience, and I do believe in second chances, so I hope you got a second chance cause we all will need it one day wish_me_luck.

Texas provides a quarterly bulletin to all licensed nurses. Among other topics, they list names of people whose license has been inactivated, retired, revoked, suspended ---
You can also go on their website and read the minutes of their quarterly meetings to get info. It is not real specific, but it is possible to catch trends in what is being presented to the BON. I imagine other states have similar venues.
