In the news this week, a newborn was found in a ditch at around 6 a.m. naked buy still covered in bodily fluids. It was around 20 degrees here when this baby was found.
HOW does this happen?
The mother for lack of a better word has not come forward yet. The police are saying they are not interested in pressing charges at this time.
I don't understand for the life of me how someone can bring a life into this world and then just toss the child into a ditch...no blanket, no bath...nothing
Even if she were very very young, most 10-11 yo girls won't even put a pet out in this frigid weather...so how does one toss a baby out?

It seems as though you have a very hateful attitude towards abortion... and while your opinion is welcome and many others on this board agree that abortion is not for them...you need to realize that only you can make the correct decision for yourself. And while the sharing of ideas is welcomed, name calling and harsh judgements really are not.
To call a woman a "pyschopath" for having an abortion, which is what I think you were saying is not nursing, is not nurturing, is not sharing ideas and is quite a far cry from professionalism. And not to be gender biased, but you as a male -which I gathered from your other posts - although are welcome to have opinions, you can truly not understand unless you undergo a miraculous gender change and somehow gain a uterus, ovaries, and a cervix that are functioning....sorry end of story there.
And I am just wondering, according to your views, what about the "pyschopath dead beat dads" that are in the woman's life until she has the kid, and then disappear w/o a trace??? What about those pyschopath men that rape little girls, yes, 10, 11, 12 year old girls and leave them as children bearing children??
Now, I would just like to add that my vote is against abortion. I would never have one, never recommend one, never participate in one..... however, I would never judge, never name-call, or falsely generalize. That is NOT the role of the nurse.... and as someone who is striving to become one, I hope you soon realize this or you will be waking up to some harsh realities of law suits if you open your mouth to the wrong person.......

Sorry, ADN, if you read my post, I never state that you have a "bad" attitude. I simply state that you HAVE an attitude, and you do indeed. You are certainly welcome to your opinion about abortion, as I am as well. What I think most of us object is calling someone who's had an abortion a "psychopath".
If your journey in nursing school continues, you will learn that this is a big no-no. You simply do not call people names b/k they have done something that YOU disprove of. At least, if you want this to be a long lasting career. You will, in your nursing journey, run into and perhaps have to treat pt.'s that have done despicable things. It is NOT your job to judge these people. It is your job to provide care to these individuals.
The very fact that you can so carelessly throw out a statement like that, really does go against your own proposed nursing "philosophy". "Nurse = Love"....not very loving, now is it?

Actually, I never called anyone who had an abortion a psychopath. I said the woman who put the baby in a ditch was probably insane because if she were a psycopath she would have aborted it a long time ago. It's everyone else who assumed I was calling all women who have an abortion psychopaths. I do think it takes an "antisocial" mentality to commit abortion, but I know the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial personality disorder, and I know that most women who have abortions don't fit that criteria. But even now, with what I have just said, do you think anyone is going to change their mind about my "attitude." No way. That's why I don't defend what I say (although, I guess I just did in this case to illustrate my point.).
As for judging patients. Thanks for the priceless advice, but I am the least judgemental person towards patients that I have ever met. I'm not tooting my own horn, I'm stating a flat out fact. This is an annonymous forum, so I state what's on my mind. As for my patients I hold this motto:
Everyone is doing the best they can with what they have at this point in time. Later on, they may have more and be able to do more, but for now, they are doing all they can with what they have.
It's called positive regard for the patient.
I love your advice on judging and then your judgement of me that follows that advice. I do appreciate your critique of me, though and I will give it its due consideration. You can bet on it.

Well, I guess you'll also have to avoid the ER/Urgent Care, Peds, MedSurg, Psych. And you never know when a REAL Nurse may offer you some "priceless advice", so I'd keep my ears open, if I were you!
