Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Thanks for all of your responses to all of my previous posts. As you probably assume, I'm evaluating all of my options including ADN, BSN, and Direct-Entry MSN. The direct entry programs look extremely appealing, but seeing that they are at the best of colleges, I don't know how easy they are to get in.

Does anyone know what the typical GPA, scores, acceptance rates of these programs are? Anyone have any experience applying?

I'm in MD, so I'd consider Hopkins, but Columbia, MGHI in Mass, Case Western, Vanderbilt, Pace, and Yale also look appealing.

Seeing as nursing traditionally isn't an "ivy league" profession, are the credentials required for these programs less than what a typical "ivy" student would need?

I'd love to hear experiences with any programs.........

My MGH ACCEPTANCE letter arrived today also Woohoo, at least the long wait was worth it!

I also got my financial aid package from Simmons which was not as much as I was accepting/hoping ... so much to think about :rotfl:

Jess - Did MGH include any scholarship info in your acceptance letter ??

Woooo hoooooo!!!!! :balloons: :balloons:

Big congrats Jen!!! We could be classmates in the fall!

Nope- no scholarship info in my letter- but I got the sense from the Acceptance Agreement letter that some do have merit award offers right in the acceptance letter itself. I guess I wasn't the top tier of those accepted?

Phew, what a relief. We could be classmates - so exciting. I know it is still so early, but do you know which school you're leaning towards ??

If I didn't have kids- MGH, no doubt. I think I would even choose MGH over BC. But Regis' less intense schedule is reeeealy appealing to me even though it's not as well known a school and doesn't have exactly the specialty track I want. It will be a tough choice for me.

I got my letter today too. I got in to MGH Institute!

Thanks to everyone for their updates!!

OMG! You Guys! I take one day off and three of you are accepted! Congratulations :balloons: I'm so happy for you! And Jess, two acceptances, that's really incredible.

Good luck to everyone else who's waiting for their letters.

No scholarship info and from my understanding ,there isnt alot to be had over there. I could be wrong but I don't think they have a big scholarship budget.

With my chemistry grades, I am not in line for any chemistry scholarship -:chuckle

Oh that's good to know. That makes sense- because it's all about the size of their endowment that determines how much money a school actually has to give, right? And also, I think schools arent as generous with professional programs, like nursing, dentistry, law, etc. Because they know you will make money when you graduate.

Congratulations to all three of you - Jen, Jess and Maxwell! I feel like I've lived vicariously through your emotional roller coasters! You guys deserve it! I hope you all celebrate big time! Now you guys can sit back and wait for other letters to arrive and figure out where you really want to attend! There's nothing like having one in the bush! :chuckle
