Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!

Good Luck!

So idk if this sounds stupid or if anyone is willing (since we are all strangers) but I was thinking of just sharing an apartment with other people- from the nursing school if needed. Apartments in NYC are pricey so getting one and splitting the monthly cost for utilities could be cheaper!

I'm on the waitlist so its just an idea!

I would be very open that, in fact, I was hoping to find a roommate to help cut the expenses. ?

i saw this on their website earlier. but i also saw several rooms for less than 10k/yr , which is why i’m a bit confused lol. i’m not sure if there’s a specific location designated for us nursing students. since you’re coming from texas you’re almost guaranteed one.

is it first come, first serve (via application of course), or should we only apply after we have submitted our agreement to attend on our end?

Hey - What I understand from the website is that decisions aren't finalized until after the 31 March deadline but the date of application is used as part of the decision making process when they start deciding who gets offered what. So we should start hearing in esrly April if we got housing!

I would assume that you can only apply after you accepted the admission offer. Then students coming from out of state are given priority. I got the impression that, if you’re coming from out of state, you’re almost guaranteed on campus housing. If there are still housing available, I assume it’s first come first serve or you can find your own from networking with other students.

I’m curious how much the rooms are for on campus housing. I found a room for rent. The place is about 8 blocks away from the campus. $700/month. I’m gonna check the place out this tues. But before I accept, does anyone know if the monthly rent for on campus rooms is less than this?

Is there a deadline to accept the initial offer for those of you who did not get waitlisted?

Hello everyone! I was also admitted to the MDE Columbia program. I was born and raised in Los Angeles so it’s exciting to have a door open like this ?

as for housing, I have not seen anywhere on the housing website that states you have to pay your deposit first before trying to secure housing. Housing for MDE nursing students opened on February 1st and closes on March 31st and it seems like it’s a hard deadline. I sent mine in February 1st and was sent an email confirming it was received and I don’t plan to pay my deposit until closer to the end of this month.

I'm so torn between applying for university housing or not since it is a cheaper option, but I wouldn't be able to have my pets, and I'm from chicago so I wouldn't be able to visit them much... never thought a cat could cause this much inner turmoil

Opinions welcome, I appreciate unbiased outlooks

Do you have the link to the site where you applied? I found different areas of the Columbia website but they all seem to be for people who already put their deposit down
