difficulty making self study for courses other than nursing

Published

I'm taking a speech and computer course along with my first semester nursing classes. I really love studying for nursing and science classes, but I can't stand studying/preparing for my other courses. It's almost like time away from my nursing, and so a waste of my study time! I have a presentation in speech this week, and an exam in my computer class. It's the worst..I still haven't touched my presentation outline. I'm thinking, just get a B, get by...with nursing and sciences, I am so driven, and go for As. ?Anyone else dread the courses that should be easy compared to nursing, but in actuality, SO difficult in the way I'm experiencing?

hopefully the fear of failing and not reaching your goal will stir up enough anxiety to get you into the studying mode for those courses. :)

a B is a good grade whether you tried for it or not.

I agree that a B is a good grade. And, I did complete my outline this morning, and feel really good about the presentation. Fear of failing does have a way of motivating, and it's better when I actually sit and do the work rather than think about it.

I think my point wasn't about results, but the feeling of having a certain amount of time to study, and wanting to spend it studying my nursing courses, not non-nursing courses.

wow I have the same issue, except I'm not even in any nursing classes yet.

I feel this way sometimes. I'm in my last semester of nursing school (graduation in May..finally!!) and right now I have 3 nursing courses and 1 non-nursing course which is a 1 literature class. I have to read a lot of stories for this class and I feel like it precious takes time away from my nursing studies. But it's one of the general requirements for the BSN program and I need to take it in order to graduate :banghead:

Anyway my advice is that yes, you need to put aside time to do the work/studying for this class (if you get a good grade in the class it'll help your GPA in the long run!). Do what the work you need in order to receive decent grades in the non-nursing courses and spend the rest of your time on your nursing class. I find with my Lit class that the work is fairly easy compared to my nursing courses..all we do is read stories and then discuss them in class. If only my nursing courses were that easy...:uhoh21:

I'm in the same boat.....silly BSN requirements! I put very little effort into non-nursing courses and still do fine. It's more of an inconvenience / pain in the butt than anything else! One more gened and then I can finally just focus on my nursing!
