I am having an extremely difficult time finding a Nurse Practitioner preceptor for an Adult rotation in Family/Internal Medicine. I need a preceptor for Oct-Dec and need to complete 185 hours in 9 weeks. I have tried the NP finder site, with no luck. I have contacted the local APRN association, and still no luck. I have tried numerous NP's around the area and they either have a student, or are not accepting students. I am willing to travel some. Does anyone have any other suggestions? There are two other large universities in my area that have online NP programs and even their students are having a hard time securing preceptors from what I have been told. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Have you tried AHEC? You will need to find the closest office on this link and contact them. They do help NP students. It's not the most user friendly site. I actually called my local chapter and confirmed they do help NP students. Will PM you a few others links.

I did all of my hours at Palmetto Primary Care when I was a student 3 years ago. Call their corporate office and ask if any of the providers are taking students. I currently have a NP student that lives on Johns Island but is percepting in Bonneau at a PPCP office. I'm an Ortho NP so if you need help with your specialty rotations let me know.

Were you successful in finding a preceptor? I'm having the same issue. I'm trying locate a OB/ GYN preceptor for June 2-August 2 for 120 hours. If anyone is able to make any recommendations I would gladly appreciate it.
Thanks

Have you tried signing up as a student for a NP association? They typically have their members EMAIL. You can email them with your resume and your request. Anyway, that worked for me when I was looking for preceptors. I also went into the doctors office and left my portfolio with a cover letter, copies of recommendations, etc. and got a few call backs that way. Good luck! :)

The best response I have had was a packet I mailed out. It included a cover letter, a CV with my photo, and any/all forms that may be required by the school if they choose to assist me. It is a tad expensive but it has really worked. Preceptors want to know why they should invest in you and what makes you special.

Much better than the phone calls and generic emails and form letters and linkedin message and Facebook friend requests I get looking for preceptors.

I too am having a difficult time. I am thankful for finding this post and the information.
Lowcountry Advanced Practice Nurses has an active APRN board. We meet regularly and can often help place students. I recommend students join - it is a good way to network with possible preceptors. I've taken on several students that I've met through our dinner meetings. The website is: lcapn.org
