I have been reading an NCLEX book--Kaplan coursebook. However, it is EXTREMELY boring. I have read it once, but decided to go through it again, because some of the information such as s/s of certain conditions was sketchy. But since it is so boring, I have decided to stop reading it & switch to doing only questions for the remainder of my study time before my test, doing that holds my attention longer & I get more out of it. A LOT of people say to do A LOT of practice questions before taking the exam. Some even say to only do practice questions, & don't mess with an NCLEX book. I am wondering though, what is the real difference between doing practice questions or simply reading an NCLEX book? I mean, either way, you're studying & learning.
I have decided to switch to questions because to read one unit in my book, let's say it's 40-60 pages, nearly takes me all day because I keep falling asleep & getting extremely bored with reading. I know that I am learning SOMETHING, but it is just so boring. My mother-in-law suggested that I do only practice questions for the remaining time, see what my weaknesses are, then review only those sections in my NCLEX book. This sounded good & less boring, so that's what I'm going to do. What are your thoughts on this?

anyway, need to go back with my practice test.. keep us posted.:)
I am actually seriously thinking about rescheduling my test for the 2nd week of June. I stopped reading the text, & decided to do just questions, so I want to (hopefully) be sure to do at least 3,000 by that date. But then part of me wants to just go & take it on the 31st of May, as planned, to get it over with. However, I still have not really studied medication, but I was going to just take a chance & go take the test. It seems like I keep postponing in order to get more time to cover things, like meds. So when I postpone the test date, in my mind I feel relieved because allegedly I have more time to cover things like medications. But this never really happens--the test date approaches, I start to feel nervous because again, I haven't done what I need to do, so I postpone. My husband is feeling like, "Geez, go take it already." I have postponed my test SEVERAL times. Any advice? Tough love is welcome :) I am really thinking about changing it to June 7th, & making a promise to myself that this will be the last time that I reschedule!
Also, I have failed it twice already, so maybe that plays a part in things, but I KNOW that I have to take it eventually, & the sooner the better!

Hi everyone! I agree with you guys; I'm only doing lots and lots of questions every day from my review books and CD-roms. I try to do at least 150 questions a day. I notice I can answer more without falling asleep if I use my CD roms and not the review books themselves. I do try to look up stuff I'm not familar with (like how to treat malaria! we never learned about that in school!) . the other day I went nutty trying to go over meds and did 500 med questions! My eyes were bugging out after that! I think that's probably too much to do. Is anyone using the Lippincott CD? I have that one, and Mosbys CD rom and also the "incredibly easy" CD rom. I also bought a review book just on meds for the nclex and it came with a CD rom too....very helpful! I'm still waiting for my school to send in my info so I can pick a test date...and I'm waiting to hear about my first choice for a job....so ACK!! I'm just a big bundle of nerves! But I'm so glad to have a good support system here...I always read something that makes me laugh on here cuz I feel the same way! :)

advice? :uhoh21: :smackingf as of now, it's difficult for me to give advice about your situation...
(not therapeutic, huh!):stone because like you, i also feel that i'm not yet prepared and need to finish lots of practice tests that's still waiting for me. my husband once told me when i was really down "don't think you're not yet prepared because you are prepared. you've been doing your part, answering questions, reviewing & reading. so by God's grace & mercy you'll pass"
and just this morning i counted the days and i only got less than a week left..& honestly i'm so nervous too:chair:. but like you said we need to face our fear..:imbar
will remember you in prayer.. as the word of God has said, "those who hope in me will not be disappointed"isaiah49:23
a little tidbit, i was able to talked to a friend who recently passed nclex. he shared to me that he encountered more on prioritization & delegation. disaster planning's incorporated in prioritization.. also the st.john's wort herbal medicine. he's computer shut off at 75 and he passed.. but before that he also experienced the same agony we're experiencing.
I am so glad that I am not the only one who feels this way. The book gets real boring, I have been slacking on my studying because I don't know where to focus my sudies; book or ques. Recently I have made a descision and that's to focus on the ques only and review what I don't know. My exam is for june 6 but I am rescheduling it to june 24 which is my deadline. I need more time to really execute a plan, I have confidence thaT I WILL PASS, but I have been feeling real depressed lately making me slack off, but no more. I worked to hard to get here, I must pass at first chance.
Good luck everyone. BTW Pie123, my advice to you is to believe in your abilities, take your time and no matter what don't stop trying.

hi, thanks for sharing., i'm feeling the same way., but good thing after my relaxing bath i have decided to continue. now i'll search infos about crutch walking (3 point, 2 point gait):chuckle
wishing you the very best too. :Melody:
Each exam is different, so just because a friend had a certain type of question on his exam, you may see nothing like it on yours. Remember that the questions are changed also................
Worry now more about how to answer the question and what they are looking for with doing the exams on the CDs. Not content.
Good luck.................. :)

I HATE CRUTCH WALKING! I can never get it straight. 'Up with the good, down with the bad.' The NCLEX is bad, so I say down with IT! But, I noticed you said you were going to search for info about crutch walking, I have some, if you want, I can post it here. It's just a couple of paragraphs. Let me know.
