Diet Coke Commercial: Nurses are Extraordinary

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey fellow nurses, if you were creating a massive new ad campaing called "stay extraordinary" and wanted to show "extraordinary people doing extraordinary things" would you choose a nurse--Diet Coke did for their awesome ad!

Enjoy:

I like RC Cola, come to think of it. Ginger Ale is becoming very hard to find here. Too bad since I recommend it a lot, Ginger being a good stomach settler. Myth-busters did a piece about an hour ago and found Ginger was really good for motion sickness too, without the side effects of meds.

love it! we need more of this!

DIET PEPSI RULES!!!! ;)

Specializes in PACU, OR.

Outgrew my diet coke/diet pepsi addiction years ago. For my caffeine rush I stick to coffee aka "rocket fuel"'.

Fizzy soft drinks in general are not healthy, but then I've been informed that drinking my favorite coffee-which is so strong the spoon almost stands up straight in the cup!-is going to kill me one day...

In double blind tests 2/3 to 3/4 of people prefer taste of Pepsi, yet Coke outsells it. People have done all kinds of surveys and masters theses about this, best the can figure is the guttoral or primal design of the Coke logo's. Sorry, been watching too much TV lately. Now if they'd just come up with an IV form........

Actually, they do know why and studies have been done on it. I was at a conference where this actual topic came up. Taste tests are set up to give you a sudden, on-the-spot taste of the drink. Pepsi is sweeter than Coke, so it appeals to the one-time test. However, the continued sweetness when you're drinking a whole bottle or can, many people find it hard to take. A bit of the extra sugar taste is good, a lot of it is distasteful to many.

So, while Pepsi wins the taste tests, it can't win the overall battle of long-term taste. At least not yet.

Specializes in ICU, ER.

What struck me is she was drinking it at the nurses station....Not at my hospital.

It was a nice commercial though and glad they included a nurse. It was really the only "ordinary" job they had...They had what, an artist, film director, fashion designer, famous person (for what we dont' know) and nurse....(Did I get them all?)

Honestly, I'm not completely sure that the advertisers meant for her to be read as a nurse... given that doctors do the patient care in TV land, maybe they intended to show a doctor in action. And I'm not completely sure that the general population watching this ad would assume that she's a nurse, either. She looks like a nurse to us, but we're biased. Maybe she's an RT, or a CNA.

Diet coke is sweetened with aspartame (as are so many things now, fruit juice, tea, cereals)...Not very good for you. :uhoh3:

Here's a helpful link for all those diet-coke drinkers.

Drink Diet Coke for Good Health? Not So Much. Blisstree

I also agree with mappers, I wish they would have had more "ordinary jobs", there are plenty of jobs that can be extraordinary in the impact they cause. Not just nurses but teachers, policemen, firemen... :)

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

Diet Pepsi all the way!!!
