Didn't pass aanp...

Well I didn't pass the AANP. I just wanted to give an overview of the questions I had. I had alot of specific pharm questions, like if you are allergic to cipro and a erythromycin and tetracycline what do you give for bacterial pneumonia. Exact dosages for certain diseases. I mean I must of had 60 pharm questions, alot of diagnosis questions (which was good) and alot of diagnostic, labs that you would or would not do. I didn't have more than 5 assessment questions. Derm was very tricky and the descriptions were very vague.

I am a little discouraged because this sounds nothing like what people have been describing to me. Over all there weren't any diseases that I hadn't seen or heard of or that were not in the review books. Just very specific and in-depth questions. One question had to do with the first pass effect in pharm??? That is like pharm 101.

So I gotta re-take this cr.. again...lol.

I am not going to wait too long to re-take it. Gotta do CEU's now. If anyone has any advice let me know.

:yeah:Way to go Nursing 101. Congratulations!!!!!!!!! Tell us the secret to studying. Any tips now that you have passed?

I take the AANP in a few weeks and I don't think I have ever been this nervous. I have been taking Holier and Zeucker(sp?) practice tests and scoring about 70-78%. I atteneded the Holier review course and have also read the Leik review book. Any suggestions? I was told in the review course that they associate 65% with passing, but I feel that 70% is too close for comfort. HELP!!

Sorry... for some reason I missed this answer. Try not to be nervous... I think that helped me alot. My second exam was just as hard as the first. I only scored a couple a points more. Most of my classmates have said that their exam was easy, but when you asked their score, most of them scored in the low 500's. To me that is not easy.

You need to know the keywords for diseases such as rashes, fever rashes, rheumatoid ect. I had a lot of crazy questions, I also had alot of the first exam questions that I honestly could not figure out the answer. That Zerwek book is very good, my test had at least 15 questions from there. I still had alot of pharm but this time around I understood the questions better. Alot of them I had to diagnose and treat the patient. So if you don't have a good diagnosis you will miss it. Try to read all your answers before you answer, in order to know which system or disease you are in, it really helps. Most of all study, more than doing questions, somebody said on this board to know your basics, very true.

Best of luck to everybody...

Well, Patty & BlessedX, I know who you are... ARE you ready for the AANP...Still waiting for my last test score to make sure I will joining you guys on the AANP train. Not likely that I wouldn't pass, but you never know... I think I was in a different zone that day... Can't remember what was on the test... Senility kicking in already.....

I picked up the ANCC review book to study the basics... I hope we all pass with flying colors. :)

MiddleAgeNP....Ha--NO WE aren't ready YET! Hoping for 12/20.. Zerwach is a darn hard book. I do well on Fitz and Hollier, but that book hits my weak areas for sure.

Just curious, I see if you fail the AANP you have to take 15 CEUs applicable to area of weakness, but I've seen posts that say start them ASAP. How do you know what kind to take or what is accepted if you start before you get an official letter?

Also, did any of you take the Fitz or Hollier practice tests online? Were they at all representative of the AANP exam?

I graduate this month and I'm considering trying to take the exam before the end of Dec to take advantage of the AANC reciprocity that will end Dec 31. I will likely not be taking a new job right away because I will be on maternity leave March-April, so while I don't want to fail it, I have time to retake it.

Hi! This is my first time to post. I too failed my first attempt back in Sept. I lost my job because of failing but probably a blessing because I have been studying ever since. I am scheduled to retake Dec. 11th. I have EXTREME test anxiety and it is already kicking in. I studied Hollier before and attended her review so this time I studied Fitzgerald book and CDs. I have been reading everyone's posts and was wondering if there is anyone who could give any additional insight. I have been studying for this exam for 2 years d/t my anxiety, so needless to say I am devastated....but I do know God will get me through this!!

Thank you.....dogluvr

Blessedx3 thank you for replying....unable to send messages.....I test at 12:30 CST....thank you for the prayers!! Congrats on graduation!!! I do not really know how to navigate as I am just learning this site...

Ok so I sceduled my exam December 15th!! I'm still nervous but excited that there is an end in sight. I'm going through the review book questions and then the ones that I get wrong, I look more into as my weak points. I just feel that I am never going to feel completely confident about this test. Keep me in your prayers that day:)

To all of you taking aanp for the first time or retaking you might want to step away from the questions and do systems review. I found it helped me to go back to the basics and systems review. The questions seemed to train my brain to look only for that subject matter which I believe really hurt me the first go around. I did much better the second time. I am family so my test covered a little bit of everything. I wish you all the best:)

When you say go back to basics...would you say it's best to start by reviewing our assessments books or a general medical dx and treatment book? (We used Mcphee Current Medical Dx and Treatment~it was like the bible LOL)

Not trying to sound basic, but just want to cover all bases as best I can the first time around! There is no way I will have time or energy to review all the texts and articles we were given to read in school. I had planned to focus mostly on Hollier/Fitz (I have both), major guidlelines (JNC7 etc) and assessment.

Thanks for your advice.
