Did not pass first attemt NCLEXRN. Help!

Nursing Students NCLEX

I took my boards in July and did not pass. I literally felt that I was guessing at every question. I even wondered if I had gotten the right test. LOL I felt like I had a respiratory therapy exam or something of sorts. But I have been studying by using the NCSBN course and someone directed me towards this website for Suzanne's plan which I am going to start just as soon as my review course runs out.

After leaving the testing center, I knew that I had not passed, and I held up pretty well with my results. If I do not pass this 2nd attempt ( I have not scheduled again yet because I want to feel ready) I will probably be very depressed and not test again.

How much do you all think is a good amount of time to study per day without experiencing overload?

Many people believe that a testing location has bearing on passing. Since the test is totally random, I do not see how this could be true, but several people think it. What do you all believe?

Thanks for any tips, suggestions, prayers! I hope to feel ready by the end of September, but if I am not I will just continue to study.

Testing location is urban legend. I guess it depends on how well you're taught in your review c ourse unless you 're already familiar w/ the content backwards and forwards.

Good luck!

Hi Newestlilnurse,

You and I are in the same situation. I had just taken my exam on August 1st......I felt really bad about the test. When I left the center I knew that I didn't pass. I had 265 questions. When my name didn't post online after 3 days, I have given up hope.

My question to you is......how soon did you receive your letter that you didn't pass? It has been over 2 wks for me but I haven't heard from BON. I am so eager to retest again.....By the way, did you take Kaplan or any review session?

From,

Rebmem

I did not take any review course. I had studied so much for HESI (and passed the first attempt) that I honestly felt prepared for the NCLEX. I tested on a Thursday and by Saturday I had my results in the mail from my BON. I could not believe it was so quick. I am currently taking the review course from Pearson Vue and hope that it will help. I don't really know.

The state that you are writing the exam for, nor the actual location of the test center do not have any bearing on the questions that you will get. The computer individualizes it based on how you answered the previous questions.

The exam is going to focus on your weak points, so if respiratory was one of them, it will give you questions on that.

Hey you all. I passed my boards at the end of September, which was my 2nd attempt. My first attempt was in July. I have heard good things about Suzanne's plan. However, I was not able to use it, because I would not have enough time to complete the 2nd part within the time frame I was hoping to retest. If I had started with Suzanne's plan, then I would have had plenty of time to go through with the entire study. Instead, I started with a 5 week review course from NCSBN. It was helpful with lots and lots of practice questions! It wasn't until I was almost done with the review course that I heard about Suzanne's plan. Next, I used my HESI book for review over Medical/Surgical and Critical Care concepts. I did around 3,000 practice questions from various cd's, but mostly Incredibly Easy. The best thing for me was doing the questions and viewing rationales!!! I used my medical encyclopedia to look up any term or disease that I ran across in practice questions for which I was unfamiliar.

Hope this helps and good luck to all of you preparing for boards!! Thanks for the encouragement when I failed the first time!
