Did I fail the NCLEX?

Published

I just finished the test and I am completely freaking out. I only had 75 questions. I also heard that if you got the last question wrong, that it means you probably failed. Has anyone heard that or do you know if it is true or not? I know I got the last two questions wrong. That can not be a good sign.:crying2:

yesss.congratulation!!!!! :smokin:

Hi!! I'm an RN here in the Philippines and I must also take the NCLEX as well for me to have license in the US but i didn't have the exam yet but I'm reviewing now for that,,, well as for my advice you have to relax and don't forget to pray. Because only God knows what you're true feelings are and you can cast your worries and fears on Him when you pray try it and you will feel that your load has lighten up. I'll be praying for you..

my instructor addressed this number of questions myth in class...she says that the number of questions on your test is irrelevant. You can pass with 75 and you can pass with 175 etc. Good Luck!! Im sure you passed!!!!

ok im guility of not reading all the posts after my first post!! SOOO..CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! woo hoooO!!

people who get 265 questions usually waivered on the line through the whole test. they didn't get too high or too low from the line. that's where getting the last question right or wrong can in some cases matter. if you get the last question wrong and you end the test below the line than you will fail. that is not true for every test though because you could have been just high enough above the line that getting the last question wrong didn't make you end below the line.

i still do not agree with the above statement that was made by blevinsrn.

some people will get 265 questions, period. getting the last question wrong when you have 265 questions still doesn't mean that you will not pass. there are many other factors that are taken into account, mainly the level of the the questions that are being asked.

i'm sorry you don't agree with what i posted. i was just relaying information that was told to me in school. i was also told that there are some people that will have 75 questions and 265 questions no matter what. it is somehow randomely done before the test is started.

what i wrote in my last post backs up what you said about getting the last question wrong. in my post, i simply explained why "in some cases" getting the last question wrong could cause you to fail. i do not agree that you will always fail if you get the last question wrong.

i do also agree with what you say about there being other factors involved. i did not mean to imply that passing and failing is only determined by the number of questions that are answered right. i believe that the questions are weighted. a question that they statistically believe to be harder would count for more than a knowledge level question. i know that there is way more to it than what was in my post but i figured that no one wanted me have a five page post here. i just summarized my opinion.

while i am absolutely no professional when it comes to the nclex scoring process, i was simply just trying to help. :)

congrats to you randie!!!!!! : :balloons: :rotfl: :yeah: :w00t:

well God Bless on being a Registered Nurse I'm so happy for you.

If you are a certain distance above the line when you get to the minimum questions(75), then it will shut off and you will have passed. If you are a certain distance below the line, it will shut off and you will have failed. Or is you are close to the line either way, the test will keep going until you get a certain distance above or below the line of competence than it will shut off.

Okay, first, I'm not trying to stir up anything - just a point of clarification, since many people have their own ideas about how the nclex grading works, and this is what I know from the Kaplan talk that I had - The test is trying to see if you can stay above the line for a certain number of questions, not the distance above the line. That makes sense because one cannot really go too far above the line because the questions get progressively harder if you go too far "above". It also makes sense because that's the whole point of "the line", so you keep your head above water so the speak, for a period of time.

Anyway, congratulations for passing. I would rate it as the most stressful exam I have ever taken. Brutal.

Congratulations!
