2nd?

This will be my 3rd application and I'm starting to think I suck, LOL.

I have a 3.89 GPA, have had 3 years of general college and finished up my pre-reqs at the nursingf school. There's nothing left for me to take.

So, now after turning in my 3rd application I am starting to panic!

I'm 30 years old, my kids are all in school now and I want to be close to finishing something- I don't want to start over from scratch with something new if I don't get in, yet again!

So, am I the only one who has had to apply so many times?

I'm really feeling down about it!

Thanks!

You have a 3.89 GPA and you did not get in . That is an excellent grade point average.

Have you asked your advisor to tell you what you may improve, or asked why you haven't gotten in yet?

No hun, you don't suck. You seem to have everything you need as far as I am concerned. Have you tried taking yourself to another program and apply there? I know that may not be a possibility because I don't have that option.

Anyhow, best wishes to you. :)

Hi! Don't despair. Have you considered any other schools? I would go in to the nursing department and ask why you have not gotten into their program. I know of a few girls who didn't check into their applications and did not get in to find out their required paper work was left on someone's desk and didn't get into the right hands. If you have taken all the prereqs, there has to be more information on why you haven't gotten into the program. One thing to consider if you end up with time on your hands, is try to get that AS degree completed to prevent losing any courses you have completed. I know after a certain time period, I believe it is about 5 years, classes don't count and you can lose course credit. If it all fails maybe you should consider a bsn program, they often tend to be less stress than an ADN program. Whatever you do there are different avenues to the goal!! This may also be a sign from God that maybe this program isn't the one for you.

Good luck to you!

I don't understand how someone with a 3.89 gpa does'nt get into nursing school. The third time was a charm for me!! Keep the faith!!

I got in on my fourth time applying, and accepted as an alternate at that. Eventually I was officially accepted (thank goodness). I recommend talking to someone in the admissions department (the dean maybe?) and ask how to improve your chances of being accepted. Also, apply to other schools in the area.

Most important of all, don't forget anything you learned in your prereq classes, like A&P and Micro (if you took them). You want to be on your toes with those subjects because they really come in handy later!

I would definitely get my application out to all surrounding schools if I were in your position. Different schools have different scoring methods for applicants.

Hey there!

I've applied (and have been going to) Lady of the Lake here in Baton Rouge. I recently found out the BR Genreal has a school too- who knew?! LOL

I did think of one other thing that I hope isn't counting against me.

I applied once in 2001, I still had like 3 pre-reqs to complete, and they sent me a ltter telling me to come take the NET, between the time I turned in my application and the time I received the letter about the NET I discovered I was pregnant with twins and had been put on complete bed-rest. I did call my advisor and told her my situation and explained I would not be able at the time. I asked her about any time limits and she said they really don't follow that much anymore IF your grades are high enough. So, I started back in 2004, finished up my pre-reqs and am now sitting her twiddling my thumbs wondering what to do! I applied in teh Fall of 2004 and the Spring of 2005 and am now sending in one for the Fall of 2005.

I did tell my husband that if I didn't get in this time I would have to do something else, I will take it as a sign that it is not meant to be. I do hope I get in though.

I know schools don't (or aren't supposed to) discriminate on age, but do you think since I'm competing against fresh high school graduates? I'm 30 (*gasp*, lol) and I did horridly in HS, but that was 12 years ago, YK?

Thanks for all your advice- we'll see how it goes!

I didn't get in on my first application either, with a 4.0.

The next year, I applied to 4 schools, and got into 2, but one was a night program, which I didn't want.

They did tell me that even with a high GPA, they are looking for applicants that have completed the bulk of their pre-req's. I think that was my downfall the first time. I had a LOT of credits, but not all of them would apply toward the nursing program.

Hey, ok I took my prereq's at LSU and the Lake as well. I never applied at the Lake because I had so many problems with the school that I decided I didn't want to go to nursing school there. I'm currently at the General which was the best decision I could have made. The school is awesome...their NCLEX passing rate is higher than the Lake's...we get more critical care experience. I know of two girls that had 4.0 gpa's and did not get in at the Lake. It's a long story as to why it's so difficult to get in there and I can email you if you want more details. One girl who worked the front desk there in the main office off of Perkins had a 2.8 gpa but she got in her first try this past semester. It's ridiculous. Call the General, ask for an application packet and research it. I'm surprised you're just now hearing about it. I promise with that gpa you'll get in the first try as long as your NET score is above like an 85.

Let me know if you want me to email you or I can give you my email address and I can give you more information about the schools.

Good luck

I made it the first time, my GPA was 4.0 and I made a 21 out of a possible 21 on the critical thinking test, a manadatory pre-req. But I know three other students that had the same scores I did and did not make it in the first round. After class started the head of the program explained to the class that 1/3 of the class had the minimal requirements(GPA 3.5, 16 on CT) and that yes 4.0 students were passed over to ensure diversity in the program.

4.0's were "passed over"? Well that stinks. I didn't get in first try, though I do have a 4.0. The program decided to change the requirements to say that you has to be done with all pre req's BEFORE you apply even if you would be done before the program starts... With the good word of the director I expect that I will get on on the second try without any problem. This is a GPA based admittance and of course if it were lottery then there would be no way of knowing when you'd get in...
