Have any of you worked on a dialysis cruise? I'm considering doing it for a little while just for fun.
It sounds too good to be true so I want to know what is the pay like or do we even get paid? How are the working conditions? What are the hours? Do they work you around the clock or can you actually have some down time?
I've read posts where people talked to people who worked on cruises, but I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has actually done it.

No pay.. but free cruise! You spend approx 8 hours 4 out of 7 days working the rest of the time you can do as you please. Fly yourself there and home. All expenses ashore are yours. All in all a great time is to be had!

I wouldn't do that job if I have to work for free for the whole week (or may be just 4 days).
You will have to pay the full price for each member if you would like to bring your family along.
You can spend a great time on a week long cruise with a week's salary. Working for 8 hours while on vacation is no fun to me. It is like volunteering.

I second that starbin!:wink2: I will simply go on a cruise. Work and vacation is not a good combo for me...

I was thinking about doing that...but when i read this post it said no pay. You've got to me kidding me. No thank you. I'd rather pay for a cruise and NOT work.
That's pretty much what I hear from everyone. It's better to spend the money on a cruise and just enjoy yourself.

Oh heck.. I'd do it in a heartbeat. :)
Work 4 out of seven days.. so what? As soon as you're off, you can just stare at the ocean, enjoy all the amenities aboard ship, take moonlight walks and listen to the waves... eat great food.......
If I'm going to work, I'd rather do it THERE on a cruise ship ! And the other 3 days are yours, remember?
Oh yeh.. I'd do it ! Sure thing !

Hi Janette,
I agree with you!!! Do you have to be certified to do Dialysis? I noticed that you also do HH. I have been in the OR for 3yrs and want more patient contact. I am in the process of applying to three HH agencys. How do you like HH?

A friend of mine did this a few times and really liked it. However, she said it was quite "challenging" at first as and the other nurses were confronted with unfamiliar machines and had to figure them out on their own real quick... this doesn't sound like fun to me!
But for the more adventerous it may be a great thing.

HI muffin ! :)
I worked in dialysis for nearly ten years before switching to HH. You don't have to be "certified" in dialysis (at least not while I was there) but a lot of nurses are getting their certification now.. doesn't hurt, yanno.
But it's not like you can just "do it" if you've never been exposed to it, or worked in dialysis... it takes a good year to just get the hang of it all.
As for HH.. I love it ! Nursing's best lept secret. So liberating.. nobody breathing down your neck.. no docs to yell at you. You get the picture.
I work in a very rural area, so lots of wide open spaces, hills and valleys, creeks and babbling brooks... cows, deer, wild turkey.
Lots of patient contact, and they are soooooooooo appreciative !!!
Yep.. HH is the best ! :)
Since this is now "off topic".. this conversation probably needs to go over to the HH forum...
Thank you Jnette!!!
How do you switch something over to a HH forum.
I am so jealous your rural area sounds wonderful. Where abouts do you work/live?
