Desperately Seeking Tips to Pass the NCLEX-RN!!!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I know that hundreds of people have probably already posted about asking for tips on the best way to review for NCLEX-RN. I graduated from a college in the Philippines and now that I think back on it, I didn't learn much from that experience except for how to take vitals signs, so whatever i learned there doesn't help me with this exam.

Now that I'm back in the states and it's been approximately 1 year since I've graduated and I'm taking the Hurst Review along with doing questions from the Saunders 4th Edition cd, since I'm not working yet I basically study from the time I wake up until the time I sleep, for a few weeks straight, but have been studying on and off for a couple months prior to the intense cramming. My exam date is on May 9th and I'm so nervous i feel like no matter how much I review the information ends up getting lost somewhere when I go back and review it again.

So i was wondering if anyone could give any tips as to how I should focus my review for the remainder of my time and what topics I should focus on that seem to come out most often on the NCLEX-RN without killing myself? Any tips would be greatly appreciated because I'm drowning!!! Thanks!

Hi PinayRN here! :) Stay calm and just be positive. Read study and understand. plus answer questions and study each rationale. IM takin mine in June. Reading my saunders book, lacharity and answering kaplan questions from my kaplan on demand. Just trust yourself. and dont forget to pray and ask for His guidance :) goodluck to us! Please let me know :)

Are you doing questions from the saunders cd too or just questions at the end of each chapter? Since I only have like 10 or 11 days left until my exam I'm mostly trying to get the most out of my Hurst online review, along with doing LaCharity questions. So many topics trying to figure out what topics are most important to focus on. Hirap talaga!

Good luck on your upcoming test.

GooodLuck to US my fellow kababayanz! hehehe.

Bumped my exam date up a week or so, so I have a little bit more time, they say you just have to know the basics, pero it's hard to distinguish what's basic and what's not heh.

I am also studing to take the test in June and I so overwhelmed

hello! Im just answering the corresponding chapters in my saunders book and answering most of the questions in kaplan. Just trust yourself. That's the only key that could help u. There's too much topics to study and we have no idea of what topic we'll be getting in the exam. Just be ready and Do our best. We can do it. Pinoy Nurses are great! :))

I took my exam yesterday and maxed out at 265 and took me 4 and a half hours to complete, came out feeling like a dog! Still have a headache and still feel like I'm in a daze.

im from P.I. too... how was your exam? im taking mine on 31st :) keep praying... :)

1. Believe in yourself

2. Don't tell the world when you are going to take the test unless you need

pressure

3. Study core material...you aren't going to know every last question on the

exam.

4. look at the format of the 2011 exam go to the your board website...

there are no good questions on the exam.....always something going on with

the patient. Focus in on areas of gray stuff you know well don't keep

studying that wasting your time.

5. Use saunders/hurst review....prepare atleast three weeks. If you use the

saunders book read the sections very helpful do the cd questions...and book

a questions.... the comprehesive test at the end of the book. All

reinforcement and helps ties everything you know together and fill in thoses

areas of gray. Hurst is excellent too...part of my college program.

6. Read all questions atleast three times....or until you understand

the question. Go with the best answer that will help the patient.

7. don't stress because your computer doesn't cut off at 75!!! You could get

the whole test and pass or the min and not pass....or somewhere in

between and still do just fine.

8. Eat a protein snack 10 mins before you take your test. ...along with

breakfast...or lunch...depending on your test time.

I passed! After taking all 265 questions that took me 4 and a half hours, I passed! To those who will take the exam soon the key too passing is hard work and determination, and understanding the "why". I would spend most of the time 8 to 10 hours or more a day reading. Sources I recommend are Hurst Review, I did the online review, worth every penny and it's so easy to understand, it's $300 though. And a MUST HAVE is LaCharity Prioritization & Delegation, if you buy any book to help you review, BUY THIS BOOK, I think it's about 30 to 40 dollars, but definitely worth it. Good luck guys!
