Desperately Seeking Tips to Pass the NCLEX-RN!!!

Published

I know that hundreds of people have probably already posted about asking for tips on the best way to review for NCLEX-RN. I graduated from a college in the Philippines and now that I think back on it, I didn't learn much from that experience except for how to take vitals signs, so whatever i learned there doesn't help me with this exam.

Now that I'm back in the states and it's been approximately 1 year since I've graduated and I'm taking the Hurst Review along with doing questions from the Saunders 4th Edition cd, since I'm not working yet I basically study from the time I wake up until the time I sleep, for a few weeks straight, but have been studying on and off for a couple months prior to the intense cramming. My exam date is on May 9th and I'm so nervous i feel like no matter how much I review the information ends up getting lost somewhere when I go back and review it again.

So i was wondering if anyone could give any tips as to how I should focus my review for the remainder of my time and what topics I should focus on that seem to come out most often on the NCLEX-RN without killing myself? Any tips would be greatly appreciated because I'm drowning!!! Thanks!

congrats for the passing

Hello po, I graduated year 2009 and now got stuck and never been reading yet haha.. I came here in Cali last year and planning to challenge the board soon. I prefer not to go to any course review, but I do prefer just to go to Library and study. I'am not a fast learner kiddo im just an average person who needs to keep focusing on studying, SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME MORE TIPS FOR STUDYING ( FOR JUST AN AVERAGE PERSON LIKE ME ) AND MORE MOTIVATION po. God bless

TO KIMMY:::::I suggest you get busy studying, and being that you finished in 09....the new format of the board was in 2011, which mean there are more select all that apply questions. The boards are NOJOKE, I have been greatful at passing my boards on the first try...for all three cna/lpn/rn. I think you need a review like hurst, to get you jump start to put your brain in study mode....then go and study on your own for atleast 4-5 hours a day and do 75 questions aday...since you have been away from the books....Use the saunders and read it do like 3 chapters a day. for three weeks....then afew days before you take the exam do the test in the back. Reading the rationals of your right and wrong only helps you. FYI THE TEST IS THE SAME MAKE UP NO MATTER WHAT STATE YOU ARE IN. From my understanding, many states are requiring you to take a review if you are unsuccessful too many times. You really need to know the why to what has made your answer right or wrong. This will help you so much. Also th e role of an nurse, labs and body systems tie those to medications it will help you. PLEASE READ SOME OF MY OTHER POSTINGS. No matter what study material you use, if you don't understand the core material everything will look greek. I wish you the best. Core things are like body system, basic labs, safety, signs of abuse, withdrawl s/s... emergency triage...who do u see first....how to delegate assigns....don't let the questions fool you no good questions on the board something bad is happening and is up to you as a new nurse to keep the patient safe, the rest of the public protected...and license intact. Remember the differents of roles between lpn, rn, tech or unit personal....what they can and can't do. RNS ARE THE ONLY ONES IN THE NCLEX HOSPITAL that can do admissions and discharges since it requires teaching and assess....even so I know lpns assess in the real world....I know I did. Really the role of the RN. I know where I have to sign off on LPN assess in the hospital if I agree with it and if i don't add other findings and still sign off. SO KNOW THE ROLES. Also just because a nurse with10yrs or more of exp. floats to your unit, still need to give him or her the most stable patient....that you can. KNOW ABOUT CHEST TUBES, JP drains emergencies....electrolytes related to burn pt....peds/obcomplications....SOO MUCH TO I could type and type....but just reivew saunders and delegations, prioritiziation. MED SURG IS A BIG PART OF BOARDS LIKE THE BACK BONE. GO to the nursing board website and see the new format of 2011, and how its broken down...also don't get so focused on medicationTIE THEM IN TO BODY SYSTEMS AND YOU WILL DO ALRIGHT) its not a pharm test or a drug cal....test you might see a few...easy stuff you know don't study wasting your time, boards don't put stuff you know really well on there its all about the gray areas....shaky places.
