Depressed failed my first test in nursing school

Published

I am so depressed I dont even feel like studying. I got a 76% in my Med-Surg test. She gave us 6 points so I really got a 70%. Almost the whole class did really bad too but what if its like this for the rest of the semester. Last semester in fundamental I did really good. Im panicking right now. Im having trouble with these senerio question on picking the best answer. Anyone have any tips on the best way to choose the best answer. Hope you can help. Thanks

when writing that kind of exam - take your time, think about each answer and what is wrong with each selection before you make your choice.

and "don't panic" - instead use your time and mind constructively - and keep reminding yourself that you will do your best

study for each exam with an NCLEX style program or book, once you understand the rationales for each wrong answer, it makes it easier to find the right answer, Princeton Review has an NCLEX review guide with CD-ROM geared specifically for Med/Surg, try to get your hands on a copy of that or Saunders and it really helps alot, keep your head up and in the game and you'll bounce back on the next exam, I'm in my last semester and BOMBED my 2nd mental health exam and when I say bomb, I went down in a blaze of glory on that bad boy (got a 66 ), but I shook it off and made a 90 on the next one so it wasn't the end of the world, just felt like it for a week,

How do you get over it. I feel like I dont even want to study. I know I will but everything seems so gloomy right now.

Most instructors give that first test as a "break you in" test. On our first test only 3 out of 28 passed--only by 2 points. Our inst. told us to buckle down and study and we now still have 25 students with about 4 months left of school. Needless to say, we figured out her testing format and studied according to that. I personally use flash cards to try and learn the information. It works pretty well. Good luck!!

I had the same problem in my first semester of NS. After I bombed the first test, I just thought about how hard I had worked to get there and how badly I wanted to be a nurse. Instead of putting my energy into negative thoughts, I told myself, "On the next test, I'm going to kick its a**!!"

And I did.

And you can too. Just keep your eye of the prize. And remember why you are there.

Best,

Diane

Hi everyone,

I am in my last semester in NS. I got a 55% on one of my exams and It really put me back that i felt sooo depression and i did not feel like studying but i got good tips. use saunders pn nclex. Also use kaplan pn examination book because it gives rationales and strategies for answer complex questions. It worked for me and it does not cost much. Most of the class isnt doing to good. but on my last exam i gotten a 80%. it put me back on the map. Everything will work out! try to get some rest and start fresh in the morning. :zzzzz

It's not so much get over it, you have to figure out what you did wrong, whether it was study hard or too little, let life wrap itself around your brain too tight or if you ust didn't understand the material, for each person it's different, but you can't sit under the cloud and let all the negativity work your nerves into a bundle that has you ready to eat through your fingernails. I'm sure you've had another exam since and did just fine which will help bolster your esteem, remember you are there for a reason, the selection comittee felt that you have what it takes, take some confidence from that!:redbeathe

You can not focus on failing. You do not have time to cry over spilt milk! There is nothing you can do about that test score! You need to put it behind you and start focusing on your next test! You WILL do better!

Do not lose focus after one test. Refocus and move on. Do yourself a favor and think positive thoughts. Just tell yourself that you will do better on the next test. Do Not Lose Focus!!

Oh dear, I know I didn't Create this Topic. But THANKS FOR THE ADVICE YOU GUYS!! I SHOULD COME ON HERE MORE OFTEN!!!

CHECK OUT ALL THESE POSITIVITY!! Unlike the Crappy: "Ohh **** I did Bad too... You shouldn't worry, the next test won't be so hard. Now the teacher knows we all suck and she's gon make it easier".

I feel the same way lizzyberry, i just got back my second exam for the semester today and i failed it, not to mention i barely passed my first exam. The second one was really really hard, but what frustrates me is that i started studying the instant i we began the material for the second exam, i bough 2 nclex books, i worked on the LSRN-Medspub program to learn how to take NCLEX style questions, i studied and studied for 3 weeks, mind you i also work fulltime. I get back my exam and i didn't even make the minimum required grade to pass. You just feel like what else could you possibly do.
