Hello, My name is Sierra and wanted to start this thread for students applying to DSN and students at DSN to ask questions and such. I would like to talk to others applying!
I want to start off by asking: Since DSN does not have an online application process, we are supposed to send in our application materials. We can apply from November 15- January 1st. I know that the sooner the better send sending in applications, but don't know if I should/ could send in my application that Monday, the 11th? What do you guys think?
Hello everyone,
Since I have been accepted into DSN I have decided to make a blog about the process of applying to school and the process of going through nursing school. I know that there was not much information about applying to DSN and information about what happens once you get in. I am starting this blog for my friends and family and others who are interested. Check it out if you are interested.
Nursinghopeful233, I have taken my Hesi. I took it wednesday. It was not bad at all. I briefly looked over vocab and grammar when I studied. I mainly focused on the math. Every ones test is a little different but my test had a lot of ratios and proportions
(ex. 5:6::x;30) Some of the ratio and proportions were in word problems. I also had a lot of fractions, mixed fractions, and improper fractions where you had to add, subtract, multiply and divide (make sure you know how to do them!) there were a lot of conversions from decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals, percents to decimals, so on and so forth. And there were a few questions about money (ex. What is 7% of $20?) this example is easier that what is on the test, most of the questions were in word problems where you have to add all the money and then find the percentage. There were a few metric conversions and US conversions. Study the conversion list out of the study book that you get it was helpful. (I had Meters- kilometers, mL - oz and a few others). Lastly, there were basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. ** there is a built in calculator on the test. you have to use the mouse to click in the numbers, make sure when you click the number on the calculator that it comes up on the screen because several times the numbers would stick and would not show up on the screen.
SV007, I do not have my schedule yet. I get it on March17th. I have already taken patho so I will not be taking it my first semester. I will only be taking health assessment (with lab) and topics of professional nursing practice 1.

Shel,
Can you use scratch paper to do the math? And thanks for answering all these questions! It's so much appreciated!

Yes!! They will give you one but you can ask for more if you need them. If you can take the practice test in the book that they give you and do well on it than you will have no problem on the hesi test. The questions in the book are a lot harder than what is on the test. They also let you take breaks during the test to go to he bathroom or get a drink of water.
Does anyone know the average debt in student loans students are left with after graduating DSN? Or has anyoe seen kind of what there looking at $ wise after talking to financial aid.
It is hard to give an average debt. The amount of debt is different to each individual. It depends if you decide to do in house loan, federal loans, private loans or a mixture of federal/private. The in house loan allows you to pay monthly while attending school with out occurring interest. Federal loans are available but the amount available depends on the financial situation (ie. low income or federal loan from a pervious institution). If you have taken out federal loans from a previous school then it will be deducted from the total amount federal money that is available to you. Also you can take out a loan and pay while you are in school, which will decrease the amount of loan after graduation. For me, I have previous federal loans. I will use the rest of the federal money that is available to me and then I will have to cover the difference through a private loan. Private loans are mostly dependent on credit history, but they usually have higher interest rates than federal loans. Basically I will have to take out loans for all of my school expenses. Luckily, I have taken patho so that class and book fee was taken out of my total cost. Also, I declined the school book package, which means each quarter I will pay for my books outs of pocket or I can look elsewhere for cheaper prices. The book fees have been taken out of my total cost as well. Its hard to say what the average is because everyone is in a slightly different place financially. I hope this helps you.
Thank you , that makes more sense . My first two years were paid for since I went to community college. I talked to the woman in financial aid had she said I'm looking at about 37,000 roughly. Sucks being only 21 and have to use parents income. I just can't find myself to get loans in that amount for a school. I don't know if it's worth it
