Denied twice!!! :(

Okay I'm starting to lose hope here. I applied to nursing school at wayne state twice and got denied. So far my grades are good but I do have to Cs which I know are mainly the reasons on why I didn't get accepted. So now I plan on taking the Clep for the two classes which is a bio and chemistry class. I have already retaken one class so I can't retake the two. Why don't I just apply to other schools? Well because they have different requirements and extra classes and test will have to take in order to get into their program. Honestly I feel as if nursing may not be for me but then if I switch my major I have wasted 5 years of my life. I have no more classes to take like all of my general education classes are completed and I'm just trying to get into the program. Has any one taken the biology and chemistry clep if so was it hard and how long did you study and what materials you did you use

Before you CLEP see if they will replace the credit they may still count your Cs

How many more classes would you have to take to apply to other schools? If you really want to be a nurse then you will find a way. Take extra classes and tests if you need to. It will only help prepare you. What tests would you have to take? TEAS, Hesi? If it's a nursing entrance exam then you shouldn't worry about those. With taking prerequisite classes those prepare you for nursing entrance exams.

If you really want to be a nurse you will apply to multiple schools and not count on one school.

Myself it took 3 yrs to get into a program and it was not the school I had wanted to go to, but it was a good nursing program

I'm pretty sure when you clep a class anyway you still earn a C. Does the school not allow you to retake those courses because you have retaken something else? I don't understand how nursing isn't for you because you don't want to do what it takes to meet the requirements. ..

Actually, when you think about it ... if she is unwilling to do what it takes to meet the requirements ... then maybe, nursing really isn't for her.

CLEP passing gives you a pass or not a pass, no grade. I don't think it would change a thing for you. This seems like something to ask the school.

Almost all nursing schools have different requirements & application processes but I can almost guarantee that if you are willing to do the research you will find some programs that require all the prereqs you already have.

My nursing program did not require a lot of prereqs that you would think nursing schools needed (and after a lot of research I found another school that had the same requirements and a lot that just required one or two more classes. I was lucky enough to get into my first choice however I also was not planning on to sitting on my hands and counting on one school. Find backups and research alternate programs such as GEPNs but if you aren't willing to fill out more than one application then you are making things much more difficult than they need to be.

Yes when you clep they totally disregard the Grade on your transcript

No if I take the clep they will disregard the grade I received on my transcript basically they'll exclude it. However as far as repeating classes only one is acceptable. I'm willing to meet the requirements its just frustrating and depressing not getting accepted that's all

I got CLEP credit for biology but this was in the late 1970s. Apparently my high school biology teacher did a great job, considering back then there were no AP high school classes.

I did not take any other biology prep course, just high school biology.

I don't think you can take CLEP test for college classes you already took, since the purpose of CLEP is to give college credits for those that have not taken that subject in a college/university setting, but check with the school. Here is what I found on CLEP website.

Prior Course Work

Some colleges won't grant credit for a CLEP exam if you've already attempted a college-level course closely aligned with that exam. For example, if you successfully completed English 101 or a comparable course on another campus, you'll probably not be permitted to receive CLEP credit in that same subject. Also, some colleges won't permit you to earn CLEP credit for a course that you failed.

What is your GPA? I taught in a BSN program for ten years, the minimum GPA accepted was 3.0, however many cohorts everyone had 3.5 and above. Also when you apply to the nursing program, they might review your transcripts. I was on the committee that reviewed application packets and we did look at all transcripts from every school an applicant had ever attended. Multiple withdrawals/repeats of pre-reqs are items that were reviewed.

OP you will need to look to other colleges and retake some classes, two C's on any Nursing Pre-Req application outright kills any chances.
