Just 25 congressional Republicans acknowledge Biden’s win, Washington Post survey finds

Quote

A team of 25 Post reporters contacted aides for every Republican by email and phone asking three basic questions — who won the presidential contest, do you support or oppose Trump’s continuing efforts to claim victory and if Biden wins a majority in the electoral college, will you accept him as the legitimately elected president — and also researched public statements made by the GOP lawmakers in recent weeks to determine their stance on Biden’s win.
[See the full data: How every Republican lawmaker responded to The Post’s questions]
The results demonstrate the fear that most Republicans have of the outgoing president and his grip on the party, despite his new status as just the third incumbent to lose reelection in the last 80 years. More than 70 percent of Republican lawmakers did not acknowledge The Post’s questions as of Friday evening.

Modern American republicans function in a cult of fear.  They no longer govern for we the people.

Change my mind.

This COUP had to end.

It's not up to the court to change election law.  It's the job of the legislature.

Does anyone think that this narrative that Trump is the victim of a huge voter fraud conspiracy, he is the rightful winner is a corrupted election and the Biden/Harris administration is illegitimate is going to go away in the foreseeable fortune? It's a very profitable con for Trump, I think.

Despots don't concede.

I saw a poll on Fox that about 36% of people actually do think that Trump is a victim of a huge voter fraud conspiracy and won the election.  This is what I mean when I say he's destroying democracy.  That's a huge amount of people that don't have faith in the Democratic process that we've had since the 1700's.  Apparently even 10% of Democrats in this poll feel that way and about 77% democrats.

I'll look for the link.

I think it's his narcissistic personality.  He can't possibly lose and has made fun of people that have failed, so better to believe he's a victim than admit he's a loser.

Edited to add link to poll:

Here's a poll that isn't Fox News.  But it does have similar results.  Only 61% of people think the results of the election were accurate. This is a sad time in America.  I expected it from Trump, but didn't quite expect so many people to buy into it, and am thoroughly disgusted at the Republicans in Congress and on the state level that are enabling this.

Yes @Tweety a healthy portion of GOP voters are seriously deluded. They believe the nonsense pushed into their brains by their media choices.  Not only are they inclined to believe a liar and cheat, they are likely to avoid masking or distancing, and they believe that we hate them.  Trump is a cruel narcissist, so they are constantly hearing messaging from him about retribution and punishment.  That drip drip colors their thinking on an almost organic level.

This explains why so many believe things that are simply unbelievable.  Like the election nonsense. There are so many incredible lies in Trump's presidency that people have simply believed...

Trump has them convinced that we hate America, all the while he is dismantling trust in Democracy.  Unbelievable.

New sources are interesting.  I was at the gym and they have multiple TV's in front of the treadmill.  One had CNN and they were giving considerable coverage to the Supreme's Court's rejection of Trump's claims of fraud.  Fox was showing considerable coverage against the covid measures some states were beginning.  But no mention that yesterday there were 280,000 positives and nearly 3,000 deaths.

I think that Trump has lost a lot in his life which might be the reason he's developed such outlandish defense mechanisms. He feels rejection which is why I think he isolates and sulks, displays temper tantrums and only reacts to adoring crowds or people, he responds with insults because he's easily hurt and lashes out AND HE'S EXTREMELY VAIN! as evidenced by his outrageous hair and alien tan.

He definitely has a personality disorder and something in his life has made him fear failure and admitting failure and wears his "winning" like a badge of honor to the point of lying about things to inflate his ego.  We had an inkling of this right from the start when he claimed, despite evidence to the contrary, that he had the largest inaugaration crowd in history.  It's gone downhill since then.

It's just a facade though because he's failed at many things, just like the rest of us.

Does McCarthy even remember his oath of office?

Well his role models from his father to Roy Cohn to Roger Stone to his friend Jeffrey Epstein etc are all toxic, sociopathic males. Normal people after a couple of tastes of toxic people avoid them, but he sought them out, as do so many in the Republican party evidenced by their sycophantic adulation and avoidance of truth and reality.
