Dear Fellow Nurse--thank you for reminding my why I am a nurse

In honor of a wonderful post today here is my story:

Dear Fellow Nurse:

Today I saw you in the cafeteria: I recognized you in a vague sort of way. But you sure recognized me! You yelled my name and came racing over with a big hug. I realized that I had been your preceptor several years ago at a different hospital when you were a brand spaking new grad. You were there in your flight crew uniform. You told me that years ago, when the manager expressed concern that you were maybe not quite ready for the ICU, I told her to hold on, she's going to make it. You told me I encouraged you to study, learn and relax. You told me that I said you would make it to your dream of being a flight nurse. You told me what a difference I had made in your life and how grateful you are.

Today, on this day, I can tell you how grateful I am and what a difference you made for me. Thank you for reminding me that despite all the frustration I am feeling about about hospital politics, what I do makes a difference to people and not just the patients. Thank you for reminding me that I love being a nurse.

That is just wonderful just to read :)

Thanks for sharing your story! It's great to hear positive stories like this. At times, I think the negativity of nursing comes through loud and clear, but the positives don't get the attention they deserve! Kudos!

yes, I have my own stories of horrible preceptors, but you made a huge difference in this nurse's life. Rock on! :)
