I recently had my BLS set to expire when I was FMLA. I was not allowed to take the class through work so I did the online course and got a skills check. The gal who did my skills check made allowances for my surgery. Do not go off FMLA before it's...

I felt the same way and that was 20 years ago! Something that helped me was Patricia Benner's book From Novice to Expert. It helped me to understand where I was in my skills and give me a practical goal to work toward. Good luck and hang on!

  10. Do you personally know someone who has lost his/her license?

I worked with a nurse that was diverting/stealing drugs for her addict husband. The BON was not quite sure what to do with her since she herself was not addicted. She eventually lost her license. I also knew a physician that had addiction issues....
  11. How many pair of scrubs do you own?

I have about 20 sets right now only because I went to a scrub store that was going out of business and got tons of great things for $5 each. For just starting out, I would advise 2 weeks worth.
  12. The legalities of having a relative on your unit of employment?

My uncle was in my ICU for 45 days. I never set foot in his room as staff and left the room while report was being given. I never wanted my uncle to be uncomfortable with the the thought that I was privy to information that he may not want to share...

  14. What is the schedule "Short Hour"?

In my area, short hours means that you are scheduled less than part time hours and are not eligible for benefits. This is to distinguish from on call where the hospital is not required to schedule for any hours.
  15. My Daughter Has H1N1

My hospital is requiring us to stay home for flu like symptoms. If you call in for flu or are caring for a child with flu, it does NOT count as an toward the attendance policy. I'm sure there are some who will abuse this, but I think it's really sm...
