Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?
Do you know how many people applied to the NLC RN program?I think at least half of NLC. :uhoh21:
My psychology instructor (Dev. Psyc.) asked the class about our majors and almost everybody said nursing.
My English professor (Engl. 2) asked the same question and about 1/3 of the class said nursing.
Scaaaaaaaaaaary.

It's gonna be stiff competition for Spring Semester.
Good Luck everyone.
Oh man, that is intimidating!
Let's just hope most of them were going towards their BSN! :)
If not, maybe they don't have enough of their support courses, or their GPA won't be high enough....
I know that's bad, but we all can get in ....eventually!
I just hope ALL OF US all get in this semester!!
Let me add to this. The more I thought about it, the more the above sounded terrible of me...lol
I should add that it seems that there are so many going into nursing, but each will be at different stages, and have different goals.
It seems so many are going into nursing in our classes b/c most of us have to take the same courses.
Ok, hopefully I made up for my negative thoughts. (Although I hope WE all get in together, at the school we choose, so that we will have formed a bond already. :)
Just wanted to say good luck to everyone!!I wonder how many people have applied and what their GPA's are for their prereq's? I know they won't tell us but I wish they would just so we will know. :)
Just to let you know, I added to my above comment....lol
As for your post, I think they will tell us the accepted GPA. That way those not accepted will know why they weren't accepted...at least as far as the ones with lower GPAs or not enough support courses, or low GPAs on the support courses.
Yes....good luck to us all....we are on the count down!
For myself, I just hope I can do it. Sometimes my mind feels like mush, so I worry.....lol
Hopefully, once we get in there and know what is expected of us, it won't be too much to handle. The unknown is terrifying at times! :imbar
I just hate this 'not knowing' if I am going to get in. This was the reason why I took classes this semester so I can get my mind off of thinking if I will be accepted or not but it isn't working. lol I know a couple of people who in one of my classes said they applied to see if they are going to get in. They really want their BSN's though but still applied to DCCCD. Several of them said how hard it is going through DCCCD which didn't make me feel any better! Seems like everyone is applying for nursing school!!
Didn't finish what I was saying. lol Anyways I also am terrified. I am so terrified of that dosage calculation tests. I heard that you get 2 times to take it and if you fail it after the 2nd time than you get kicked out of school. Maybe I shouldn't have taken classes so than I can focus on those dosage calculations!!!

OK..so in my statistics class, 80% are nursing types. I will be willing to bet that no more than 10% of them get A's. In my A&P 2 class, there were 12% A's, in my A&P 1 class, there was one A...MINE.
These classes are weed-out classes just as calculus is a weed-out course in an engineering program.
The cream always rises to the top....just because there are 75% of class members "heading for nursing school" doesn't mean that we have that much to worry about.
The motivated win by persevering....the non-motivated and incapable get left behind.
What is "motivated"? I had a 96.5 (917 out of 950 points) average in my A&P 2 class and was exempt for the final exam. When I walked into class to take the final, I was greeted with "What the HELL are YOU doing here???" by my classmates. When my instructor showed up, she said, "Mike, you don't have to do this." I said that "I paid for this course and if your are giving a test, I'm going to take it." The final grade would replace my lowest test grade for the semester.
I walked out of the final 1 hour later...with 927.5 out of 950 points. It was still an A but it was a higher A ...but I didn't do it for the instructor or for my classmates. I did it for ME. THAT IS MOTIVATION.
Hard-assed old man that I am...that's the realistic point of view.

....and we should listen to the old..for they are very wise! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Your comments are so true though. With each class, there is weeding out, then with the NET there is even more weeding out.
Again I will say this, as you will see on many of my post: Motivation, determination & dedication!!!!
With my A&P 1 class there were several A's. Many of them thanks to the curves I set! (I'm proud of those!) On the first lab practical there wasn't a curve at all b/c I made a 100. (I'm really proud of that too!) lol
However, I know that once in nursing school, I will wish I was back in A&P 1 where it was easy. :rotfl:

That is definitely motivation. I didn't take my A&P 1 final. I finished with 101%. In that case I was totally satisfied! lol I actually thought about taking the final, just to see how I would do on it, but decided against it.
Congrats on your great grades! :)
