Dcccd 2006

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

The CPR card..I don't have mine yet. I called and asked if we needed it for the application and she said no but to get it ASAP. I'm getting it 9/30.

I have a 4.0 and I am working on my last prereq. now (A&P 1) and 1 support class. I already have a few other support classes completed. Next semester I am taking A&P 2 and I am thinking about waiting until next semester to apply and go ahead and get Micro out of the way before I start nursing classes. Any suggestions? I hear micro is pretty hard and it's almost certain that I will be working part time during RN school.

If you know you are going to need to work, I would definitely get most if not all of the support courses out of the way. I did that, and I will not be working. (At least that's the plan as of right now.) One, it helps to get you in, two, you don't want other classes to take time out from studying for your nursing classes.

As for the Spanish, I'm not sure if I know enough. I still need to take the 4th semester of Spanish at DCCCD to have all of the lower levels, then try to CLEP out of the Jr/Sr levels???? OHHHHH NO LO COMPREHENDO!!!!! lol

I'm a 1 sentence fluent person! LOL ....ok, maybe not 1 sentence, but like I said, I'm not sure if I know enough to CLEP it. I really never did get the past/future/past particple, etc stuff down. I just figure if I say I'm doing something now, the person should know I meant last week! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I really do need to watch a spanish TV station more often to try to brush up on my spanish. :)

Good luck to you with your classes, and your future application!

Can you take it down there to be added to your application? I guess if you qualify for entry ranking wise, they may call to see if you have your CPR or immunizations that you didn't have proof of on your application. I don't know how they do that.

Did you happen to ask if they started divi'ing up the seats? :rotfl: :rotfl:

AFter I'm done, I'm going to take it down there. I put a copy of my receipt saying that I'm taking it 9/30, and after I'm done I plan on taking it to the Health Occupation office.

Hey, as far as the Spanish, watch Dora!! :rotfl: Kalynn (my 3yr old) watches it and has picked up A LOT of Spanish! She now speaks Spanglish!

Katie,

Which school are you attending and who's your A&P 2 prof? Who did you have for A&P 1?

Hey do you guys know it EL Centro/ Northlake accepts CLEP credit for any of the nursing pre-req courses?

My best friend is thinking about applying along with me! I am so thrilled that she and I may be in this together.

She has all the pre-reqs but CLEP'ed out of Algebra and got credit for it. Will they take that?

YES!!! CLEP is accepted!!! I almost did the same thing.

Fun2care...where did you take A&P 1 and 2? I see you are at Mt. View now...so am I. I have never gone to this school but I did this semester for A&P because I heard good things about Ms. Silva. I have no idea how to go about this A&P class. It's not like anything I have done..the lectures are on videotape and you just have lab. We have a lab / lecture book written by the guy on the videos and then this 40 lb. textbook...I'm just wondering if I should read this textbook at all. I bought flash cards and a "A&P Made Incredibly Easy" book before school started. I want to utilize my time as best as possible because I do work full time and have another class as well. Any ideas since you have taken A&P already? I would appreciate it! It hasn't even been a week since school started and I am already with a stress headache! So just to let you guys know...my GPA did NOT come easy... when school is in session, I study 7 days a week!

I took A&P 1 at NLC with Dr. Kelly Sexton...He's a great instructor!

For A&P 2, I went to MVC & did the lecture video thing during Summer II. I didn't like taking it there. I don't feel like I learned as much as I did with Dr. Sexton.

The lists that we had for lab for A&P 1 was MAJOR! We hardly had to identify anything for A&P 2. I have seen the lists a few of the systems that needed to be learned from Dr. Sexton, and there was 50% more than what we had to know for A&P 2!

Ok, I think I'm rambling! lol

I took pics & made powerpoint quizzes for A&P 1 and 2. So, I think that helped me a bunch. (They are at http://www.NursingJourney.com.)

Yes, I study 7 days a week as well. I took Algebra in 2002, not going for my ADN. I made a B, but too scared to take it over. I would want to think I could make an A now, but if I can get in to the ADN program with a 3.77 on my prereqs and a 3.82 on all 17 credits of the support classes, then I'm not going to bother taking algebra over again. I'd rather take classes toward my RN-BSN. (Hence the reason I am taking an accelerated Chemistry 1411, and an accelerated MUSI 1306 this semester.)

My chem is MW 8-1:50, when are you at MVC?

Good luck!

If someone has a 4.0 and didn't get in there had to be a reason....maybe they didn't take or pass the NET, maybe their immunizations were not taken care of, didn't have a CPR card, or maybe a physical was not attached.

Either that, or they were just lying. lol

ECC told me that the cut off for Fall '05, as you may have read on an earlier post, was 3.77 with 11 support credits.

Did you just apply? Good luck to you too!

No, I will be finished with everything in Dec. and will put my app. in for the 2/28 deadline. I went to an information session at ECC in March and heard the same 3.77 with 11 supports. I was just getting a little worried (paranoid). You are right, they might not of had their applications complete which I can't imagine. Why go through all of this and miss something simple like an immunization?
