4. Don't be afraid to ask!
5. Treat your cna as a team member with respect. You want your manager to treat you with respect so why wouldn't you trest everyone politely. Say please and thank you.
1. It is okay to cry.
2. There is no "me" in nursing, it is about teamwork, coworkers will get you through some of the roughest days/nights.
3. ALWAYS DOCUMENT
4. Don't ever say "it's a quiet night" or mention a patients name specifically because I assure you 20 minutes after you speak, things are going to hell in a hand basket and the patient you just mentioned got admitted to the ED for cdiff
5.Pediatric patients have a heart of gold and still believe in magic, I secretly (not so secretly) believe this allows them to heal quicker than adults.
1. Be respectful and work with your CNA's/PCT's on your unit- they can either make or break your day.
2. Realize you do not know everything and it is important to ask questions.
3. This took me some time to learn but- take a lunch break every day.
4. Know what resources you have available to you.
5. Always be willing to learn.
As a nurse in a clinical setting things are a little different for me:
1. Patients will almost always come to you or call you before they go to the ER, even if they are having an MI.
2. Your CMA and front desk staff are what keeps you running efficiently when you have 50 patients on your schedule. Remember to thank them frequently.
3. You will spend more time than your care to admit arguing with insurance companies about why they should cover a certain drug or test for your patient.
4. There are patients you see regularly that as much as you try not to, you get attached to them and you care about them as much as you provide care to them. It hurts when you lose one.
5. Your career will be full of joy, compassion, frustration, and strength. Some days you will wonder what you were thinking becoming a nurse... But let's be honest. This is what you were made to be and couldn't imagine being anything else!
Happy Nurse's Week!
1. Treat all co-workers with respect (this means from the CEO to the janitor. Everyone deserves respect regardless of their title)
2. Treat your patients the same way you would want your mother treated.
3. Really listen to your patient. Don't be so rushed that you just go through the motions because you may miss something important.
4. Good documentation can save you later.
5. Build a trustworthy relationship with the doctors, even though some may be arrogant they need you.

Be kind and compassionate not only to your patient but family and staff as well!
When you become stressed take a minute and breath...everything will be OKAY!
When you have the time... DO help your aid (because just like the nurses they are beyond over-worked).
ALWAYS take the opportunity to listen and learn (there is so much knowledge to be gained)
Guide and accept new nurses with open arms and kindness, being a new nurse is quite scary if you can recall!
